Default Win 7 here I come...

I have no idea why I need to share this other than I may be posting on CB from my Storm for the next three days...lol! Yep, doing the deed, and I'm wiping first so it's going to take at least two days to get everything back up and running. Just finishing up the last of my backups now and then it's format city! Yay, l I think!

If I'm up and running with all my programs and files re-installed within 8 hours it will be a freak'n miracle! I figure I'll get the OS up before I go to bed and then most of tomorrow will be spent reloading software and files. That's if it goes well! Hoping things are a lot happier with my computer with this instead of Vista...

Got about 1/2 hour left of file transferring to do and then I wipe!

I've been using Win 7 since it's been in Beta, and must say I am thoroughly in love with this operating system! Did a clean install Thursday and was up and running very quickly!

No turning back now...currently formatting. Part of the delay was that I also got the new Dolly box set (yes I'm a huge Dolly fan!) Yesterday and I wanted to get that ripped and tested and then get the new playlist onto the Storm. Then just quadruple check to make sure I backed up everything important!

I am never goong to get to bed...lol!

How badly would Win7 run on a Sempron 3100+ with only 512 MB of RAM?

I bet it wouldn't be pretty, so I'll be waiting until I upgrade my compy.

According to the package for Win 7 Pro you need a minimum of 1 GHz processor and 1 Gig of RAM, so looks like you'd be short on RAM.

And yes, I'm sort of up and running. Just wanted to my connectivity really quick. So far seems quite a bit quicker than Vista, but I don't have anything installed yet except my video driver. Depending on how things work I may actually be able to do without a couple things I had installed with Vista...that would be nice!

I've had the beta for a while, but I just found out that I get the "real" version for free, because I am an ITE student . I just install it on separate partitions though. No need to actually wipe the computer.

Just create a new partition, install W7 on the new partition, copy your wanted files from the old partition then delete it. Voila, essentially uninterrupted installation. Only took 45 minutes for me to do the actual install.

Right now I have a partition for Vista, one for Windows 7 beta (soon to be deleted), and the one I just installed today. I use the Vista one to clutter up. I don't even have antivirus software installed on the beta I've been using for the past 3-5 months. Never gotten a virus. I only use that partition for gaming and surfing the net though.

No antivirus software because it slows the computer so much, and I have only gotten one virus in the 5 years I've had a computer. Don't know how people get them.

Media Center will speed up over time, especially its startup time, as Superfetch starts kicking in. Did you upgrade from Vista or XP?

^^^^^^^^ Upgrade from vista.. Speed is picking up with media center... Another reason for the lag could of been from the OS trying to find information on unknown artist (music). I just deleted all the music I had that did not have the information the computer was looking for. (album art, artist, year, ect, ect,) Seems to be getting better... I think some of could be the loose nut behind the keyboard.. While learning how to use the interface I may be giving it too many comands before the machine has a chance to catch up resulting in lag/freeze.. Any suggestions would be well recieved and appreciated.. Thx

Would I be pushing it with a Lenovo T42 Intel Pentium M 1.7 GHz and currently 1GB of ram. I am debating whether to push this laptop(4yrs old now) a little longer and upgrade to 2GB ram and get windows 7...or just buy a new laptop. Tough call.

Also, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I was wondering what laptops you guys are running and/or recommend. I was thinking of just going for a Mac and not worrying about all the choices of different windows machines but I cant justify the huge incremental cost of going mac.
