| | Sad Story, Need Help!
So here is what happened. My son was on the way home from school today, Storm in his pocket. Some 4 kids, 16 -18 years old, decided they want his phone. They held a knife to his troat, punched him in his face and head and litterally ripped the phone out of his pocket. Two of them ran away with the phone and the others followed my son, ransacking his backpack, going through the rest of his pockets.
This happend in the afternoon on a busy street. Nobody bothered to help! Noone!!!
My son is ok, besides a major headache and a few bruses.
Now here is my dilemma. I did not have insurence on his phone, and verizon is no help either. My son is devistated. He lost his beloved Storm and i have no way of replacing it right now.
So if anyone has a S1 sitting around and wants to help my son out, you could send it my way....

Calling the police is the first step. Worry about the phone later. Getting in a fight is one thing... holding a knife to his throat is assault with a deadly weapon among other things.

Called police right away. My son didn't even fight. he was just walking home from school when they came up behind him and attacked him. Unfortunately, police isn't doing squat to find those guys. The description is pretty much universal. Black, black tanktop, the other one was wearing a hoodie,... get my point? I can find 20 guys fitting the description within an hour down here.

The police need to do squat or else these kids will turn into Maurice Clemmons. Our country's morality and justice system seems to be quickly deteriorating.

In some cases, cops are just criminals with badges. We'd have less problems if you could actually shoot these criminals on sight without fear of going to jail and poor trying to prove it was self defense even when it is. The criminals are thriving because they know they have the upper hand advantage. They aren't scared to go to jail, but the people that they attach sometimes are too scared to react with deadly force for fear of making things worse for themselves, so they cower and take it from the criminals. Nothing will change, heck, the cops pretty much prove this every day by doing nothing but taking a report and going back to driving around while yacking on the phone about isht with other cops. Cam,
You may be able to get what verizon calls an alternate upgrade. Get a police report. Call verizon tell them what happened, and ask if they can give you an alternate upgrade. That is a new phone at the 1 year contract price, BUT you must sign a new 2 year contract. Just checked, it'll be 119 after the 100 off.

Maybe it's just me, but I would dedicate my time and effort to finding those punks and hauling their as*es in rather than dishing out my hard EARNED money on a phone when I shouldn't have to. Oh and don't forget to call Verizon and have the phone blacklisted if you haven't already.

Rich,
already talked to verizon. they offered me an upgrade, but it would have still cost me just above $300 bucks. I think she said something like full retail less $70 for the 1 year contract minus my $50 VIP discount or something like that. Te alternative would have been one of their cheesy free flip phones they give away because nobody wants to buy them anymore. Not that my son is spoiled, but he purchased his Storm with his own hard earned cash in March and he's flipping his share (almost) of the dataplan every month more or less... Besides, pick up an old Motorola E815 or something like that after the Storm. Hurts just thinking about it and he really shouldn't have to suffer any more than he already has. Being robbed like this is hard on anyone, but especially for a teen.
I am currently not in the situation to fork out $300 + for a phone but it just hurts me to see him going through this.
And blue, I totally agree. I spent a few hours trying to find those punks, but fortunately for them, I could not find them.

So, what happens if you get him a new phone and the punks do this again? Will you guy another? Something to think about. Perhaps a sting is in order. If your son "walks" home from school, chances are good they saw him use the phone while walking on more then one occasion and this is why they robbed him. Perhaps he should make it a habit of not advertising what he has if he's in a bad area while walking alone.
What I don't get is why Verizon would give someone a new BB at $50 after someone dunks theirs in water as a "we feel sorry for you", but they won't give this poor kid a Storm for the same deal. Heck man, it's a Storm, not even an S2. Maybe we can get our fearless leader to send the boy one and then make a blog story out of it. |

My son usually doesn't walk by himself. Was just today because the croud he usually walks with had to stay in school for a game or something and he wanted to catch up with his girlfriend. Besides, imagine 1500 kids leaving the school at the same time. Do you really think he was alone? He was surrounded by other students and this happened a couple hundred yards away from the school on a rather busy main street in front of a Burger King and at least 50 cars waiting at a red light right there at a major intersection. I mean, how much more public can it get?
I think they didn't know that it was a Storm, I believe they tought it was an Ipod. He had his earbuds in when they jumped him, just like almost every other kid these days. As for the sting, I am going to plant myself somewhere over there for the next few weeks. I'll take my son out a little earlier and we gonna keep an eye out with the cops on speed dial. Just watch, the moment I spot them my storm is going to reboot or freeze....
I agree, I mean, I'm with Verizon before it even was verizon since the late 90's. I purchased at least 50 new phones over the years, some retail, I hooked verizon up with company accounts with several hundred lines each, etc,... and once i ask for a favor in hard times and they spit in my face. Btw, I asked them about the $50 courtesy deal and she told me they can't do that. BS in my book, because I know the store manager can override almost anything. Heck, they gave my son in law a free brand new enV to replace a broken antique flip phone with no insurance or warranty when the enV came out. I didn't even ask for a new phone, I would have been happy with a refurb. I guess thats Verizon for you... I am actually really disapointed in them.
Civic, you are the leading crackberrian, can't you put in a good word for me with the leaders? I send you a nice box of chocolate in return...

Ok I'm gonna do something nice for the holidays, but it will take a little while. I sold my Storm to Bond J, but unfortunately in transit, or when I replaced the top face plate, the lock button got damaged. As a result I refunded his money and he is returning my Storm. Besides the lock button not working the Storm is fine. I am going to give it to your son!

Someone stole my moms debit card number and bought over $2,000 of shoes and in the video tape it was the exact same description. The saddest part of it all is that the police don't really care and they just say they "will try to help" but our criminal finding programs are corupt and they do nothing, but sit back and wait for their paychecks.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | In no way was I trying to be racist. That was the actual description. Some of my best friends are african american and i think there are just as many white, hispanic or whatever race crooks out there. Unfortunately, you don't read anywhere near as much about white guys robbing a store than black guys. I guess that's how society works these days. Believe it or not, Americans are still racist, if they admit to it or not.
