Default "Relevant Knowledge" Virus/Survey on Desktops

There is a "virus" going around recently where a survey that mocks a regular desktop pop up will come onto your computer while you are connected to the internet.

The survey will ask two simple questions making you think its a survey pushed by your computer manufacturer. Something like how many computers in your household and something else.

When you sumbit you wont know it, but a program called relevant knowledge will install to your computer.

What this causes is them to be able to monitor your internet usage.

It only activates when you are connected to the internet. If you are not connected to the internet you wont experience the issue.

What happens is your desktop will freeze up, and a grey globe will appear on the bottom right hand of your desktop in the taskbar. You will do all the virus scans you can to get it off, but the virus scans wont pick it up.

It will lock your mouse and all programs on your desktop.

After my dad who is a certified ethical hacker couldnt even fix my computer, my brother even did a wipe on my whole computer and thhought he fixed it. But we did notice the globe, which caused me to do some research through my Blackberry Storm to find a cure.

To get rid of Relevant knowledge, you have to go into control panel and delete it from add/remove programs. or add/uninstall.

So if you get any mysterious surveys dont take them.

I know this is obvious, but these surveys are getting designed to be even harder to differentiate it from a system program and an internet pop up.

wait...hold up...
a hacker couldn't remove something that came of in add/remove? that a system wipe didn't take care of.

Two things:
1. Bull
2. You have a very special rootkit that's why the wipe didn't take it out.

Also
RelevantKnowledge Removal Instructions :: RelevantKnowledge Removal Guide

Gives all the files and registry keys for it. There is no way in **** you WIPED the system and this came back. I've only seen that once with a very very advanced rootkit. I still don't understand how it worked something about it getting in the NTFS data streams. Anyway...
Joke hacker
Joke wipe.

If it's really has bad as you say you need to ditch the drive.
I mean...what kinda logic tells you that wiping the drive didn't fix it but add/remove did...

Making me rage here smalls....

Well, it doesnt really work like that. He did see relevant knowledge but why would he delete that not knowing if that is whats causing the issue?

I didnt even notice the globe until a little before we did a system restore.

So in a regular persons eyes looking through a control panel, a small document titled "Relevant Knowledge" wouldnt strike someone as something that causing my hole computer to lock up. Besides I found out today that the hole time he was "working" on my computer that cup he had in his hand was Crown Royal and dr.pepper, so that may explain some.

Default Relevantknowledge is not a virus

Relevantknowledge is not a virus. It is a genuine software. If you find it annoying, you can uninstall it from control panel. You can read more about this software on their website relevantknowledge.com
