Question Need Some Computer Help or Recommendations ASAP Please!

Hey Everyone,

When it comes to computers I'm no beginner or anything, but my main computer crashed a few weeks ago and of course I didn't back anything up. So I have two internal hard drives in the computer that went down with it and I'm wondering if anyone knows a way(or another website that could help) to backup all my data onto an external hard drive or my girlfriend's laptop. Keep in mind the computer the HDDs are in will not turn on and I don't have another computer to plug them into. Thank you for your help I greatly appreciate it.

Newegg.com - SABRENT USB-DSC5 Serial ATA (SATA) or IDE 2.5" and 3.5" to USB 2.0 Cable Converter Adapter - Adapters & Gender Changers

Buy that and then take out the drives (one at a time) out of your PC. Hook them up to another PC with the adapter via USB or your GF's laptop and copy the data off.

Sounds like the other PC just has a bad power supply (if it simply won't turn on). You might want to think about simply replacing that. If it's a clone PC, just go to BestBuy or somewhere else and buy a power supply that's correct for it (connector type and wattage) and replace it. If it's something like a Dell, just call them and if it's out of warranty, just get the power supply from them... that way you're sure to get the right one for that case/PC. It could be system board related as well, but you won't know unless you test a few things out. From your description, chances are good it's probably just a bad power supply though.

Good luck.

thanks ill buy that adapter cause that was my backup computer that is a good 7 years old. My main one did the same thing I couldn't figure it out. I even rebuilt the thing. Oh well I honestly think the adapter will be easier since I'm using my gfs laptop now. Thanks for the link!

If you aren't getting power, check the PSU or even the board. If the drives are bad, stick them in the freezer for a day or so, then reinstall them and power the PC up. Depending on the issue, sometimes freezing it will allow it to spin back up. Don't ask me how, it just works sometimes. And you can put it in a plastic bag, but the drives are sealed so you don't have to worry about moisture getting inside it. I've done it a couple of times with about a 50% success ratio, without bags btw.
