| | Apple Tablet - new possibilities; what do you think?
So there's been talk among the rumors that the Apple Tablet will be able to play games, watch TV, etc.
No doubt, if this was to sync with other Apple products it'll be another way to draw in new iPhone customers if this catches on and becomes a hot product.
What do you guys think? WSJ Apple Tablet to have books, games, music, tv,...

There's a lot of hype surrounding it, that's for sure. Apple puts out a solid product with arguably the most "usable" interfaces time and time again. The only apple product I own is an iPod classic and I prefer PC's for their customization, but you can't really deny the stability of an apple product.
If anything I'm curious to see what kind of GUI they throw on there, as I know apple will swing for the fence on this one. A cross between osx and iPhone sounds pretty awesome. This is opposed to the other tablet manufacturers who just throw win7 on there and call it a day. That's just lazy in my opinion, and is not the way to go about stealing the market share.
Having said all that, I don't see how I could integrate a tablet into my everyday affairs. I surely don't want to carry around a ten inch screen all day. I guess I could throw it in my backpack for school, but that's not very fun.
Honestly I'm not sure how I feel about owning one personally, but its always exciting to see some new tech get introduced.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | exactly my thought as well. This just doesnt have the same usefulness everything else they make seems to. Its large so its not as convenient to have. Now there will be tons of apple fanboys that buy it because its an apple product but its not as mainstream as a device as what they hope IMO.
It can do everything, its a kindle, laptop, portable movie and music play etc. But i dont see many people using it to replacing their laptop anytime soon. So its an added TOY for most i think.
We will see, full unveiling has come yet so i might eat my words.

Evidently Apple plans to make it popular amongst business users as well...developers are onboard to begin making apps for it so it's success with both the consumer and business market will depend on what sorta inventive apps can be developed for it (not just talking about random games and what not, but apps that increase functionality and productivity).

I read that apple has been meeting with hospitals to see if they can securely access patient records wrelessly, something they were unable to achieve with Newton.
This tablet may become the new clipboard.

What comes to mind when I read the article was the use as a clipboard especially in the medical field.
Even more scifi is that this is possibly another step closer to holographic gaming. I couldn't help but imagine the old school vibrating football game but as holograms.

Update: I just checked out the specs on the iPad via the Apple site, and another possibility came to mind. For the WiFi + 3G model, if someone was to really hack it, I bet they can get phone use out of it too and not just data. So you'll have a giant phone. In addition, with the bluetooth capability, one could be talking and doing work on their "clipboard". Am I being too delusional?

lol @ The Onion: Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet | The Onion - America's Finest News Source Quote: |
CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden. Oh, come on, you piece of ****! Just stick already!" Middle-of-the-night sources reported that Jobs then began work on double-spacing his Keynote presentation and increasing the font size to make it appear longer.
| In a more serious note...Newsweek was less than impressed with the device.

Man I was really planning on being impressed today, not so much. It's basically a big iPod touch.
