As far as keeping it fast, that ties into keeping it clean. Delete unused apps and messages you don't need. Read up on installing your OS and shrinking your OS really helps !
There are a couple of newer hybrids out right now that are really fast .451 and .464 you could try. Really just read as much as you can here and just ask if you can't find an answer. By the way,
welcome! This phone isn't as bad as you'll read in a lot of post here. Its actually quite good!
