Default Storm pretty Durable Device!

Hey, i just gotta post this last adventure i've had with my Storm. I do engineering for a career and two weeks ago I inadvertently dropped my Storm into 18" of running water in a stormwater basin that i was inspecting.

Well, immediately i flipped it over and removed the battery and water poured out of every hole in it. Seeing as how i had a 3 hour drive home from the jobsite, I stuck it up on the dash above the defrost vent and drove on with the defrost on High. I flipped and rotated it about every 15 minutes for about an hour and then stuck the battery back in.

Sure enough the sucker booted right up. There were water spots on the screen under the glass for about 3 days but she finally dried out and it's working as well as ever.

I'm sure it's not a recommended method of drying (no didn't have a shamwow, ha!), but the fact this device could take an abuse like that makes me very impressed with the quality of the build.

Thought i'd pass on the experience!

Soundscool. have to admit I'd still try the Bag of rice process before popping in the battery, but Glad it worked for you

Storm's indeed are durable..
I dropped mine from approximately 3-4 feet above the ground accidentally & yet, it took a bang, 2 cracks, 1 scratch & survived !!
There wasn't any water to break the fall here !!

(Wondering what might be the terminal velocity of a storm xD)

Nice to hear it dried out ok, My old 8703 got wet and came back
I droppe3d my storm under mt front tire of my 4x4 and didnt notice, backed out of the spot and ran it over, not a mark on it but it did crush the sensor under the screen that controls the click... so needless to say I got away with playing dumb as if it was another screen failure and got it covered through warranty..
mind you I am on storm number 6, im off warranty in a few days so itll be a storm 2 next since they have seemed to have fixed the screen issues by using 4 sensors and such

i've dropped my storm so many times it's so out of shape.. battery cover had to be bent to fit back on, every panel is now loose and makes noises, screen has a huge crack at the bottom... all of this and yet it still works flawlessly.. i do have a rubber case for it now (lol) i'll be buying a brand new OEM housing & screen pretty soon though so i'm not too worried

I have to agree. It is solidly built. I have dropped mine a few times and there is no hint of exterior damage and everything still works. It has it's problems, but basic durability is not one of them.

The day I bought my storm(Dec. 23 2008) I also bought the BB soft rubber case and I have dropped my storm numberous times(more than 10) from various heights onto various surfaces including counter height to kitchen floor and waist height to concrete floor. It still looks like new, and does not have any loose panels, cracks marks or scratches and thanks to Lyricidal's newest Hybrid(5.0.0.497) it works way better than new.

All that being said, I still wish I never bought the Storm.
