You can find the cables on eBay. I have one here to install in my 9530, but since I haven't done it yet I can't offer any tips. Hopefully I will get it done this week...I want to get that thing sold!

I'd help but I have no idea what you're saying. Is this is as nonsensical on the full site as it is on the mobile? I understand you're in a bind, but a little punctuation would go a long way to helping me understand your problem.

First things first - jgl360, why did you post your problem in the Storm Owner's Lounge vs the main page (BlackBerry Storm 9530/9500)? I'm not trying to up my post counts, but if you take notice, you are still at 0 posts because (I'm guessing) posting in anything other than the main forum pages doesn't count. And if I remember correctly, the sub-forums and a few others (like the Marketplace) are considered social forums. My point being that if you had originally posted in the main 9530 forum, a lot more members would have seen this. I only found it by chance.

Anyway, as ChuckH0308 said, I think you are looking for what is called "OEM BLACKBERRY STORM 9500 9530 TOP BUTTON FLEX CABLE" which is the "BLACKBERRY STORM 9500 MUTE+LOCK KEY MEMBRANE FLEX CABLE." I'm just quoting the info on eBay. To find these, use the description and search eBay. They run $11 - $15 and all are from Hong Kong, usually 2+ weeks to get to you.

If you have already removed your top cover, you will also see the antenna ribbon. The problem I've found with the 9530 is that they put the double-side tape on both sides of the ribbon cables and unless you remove them very carefully, they will tear. The cables need to remain glued to the bezel and carefully removed from the top cover as you take it off - easier said than done, but I guess you already know this. If you decide to go this route, have some of the tape available as I don't know if it comes with the flex cable. ChuckH0308 - did tape come with the cable? If not, they sell it here: Tools - Cellular Nationwide Network - Cellular Accessories - 3G, Sony, Panasonic, LG, SonyEricsson, Look at the bottom of the page.

There is an alternative - look here: BLACKBERRY STORM 9500 9530 FACEPLATE BEZEL FRONT COVER - eBay (item 170449213463 end time Mar-22-10 16:25:04 PDT) After going through what you did, I found this. He's in Canada and the shipping isn't the quickest either, but faster than Hong Kong. This item is complete with the top cover already attached (w/ ribbon cables underneath) and the bottom keys. The only thing missing is the bottom cover. I've never changed a Storm1 complete housing but I'm guessing that it doesn't come with the ribbon cables attached. This one does and makes the job a whole lot easier.

If I may ask, why were you trying to remove the top cover in the first place? The Storm1 can be completely disassembled without doing so.

DrewCSchultz - I agree, I had a hard time trying to figure out what the problem was too. Punctuation and clarity can go a long way. But cut this guy some slack, he's a noob and needed help.

Hope this helped. Good luck!

I have to add to this thread and say that changing the membrane cable thingy isn't such an easy project. One thing is for sure; RIM will NOT be hiring me to assemble that part of the phone...lol! I wasted a LOT of time and money waiting for parts from Hong Kong and trying to put the stupid thing together. I FAILED!!! Here's the story:

So, I got the membrane or whatever and then decided to order a new top cover since the old one was scratched. Well, the top cover came next, which was great. What was not so great is that I somehow managed to lose the little earpiece grill from the old top cover in the process of transferring it to the new top cover. Do you think you can buy just the grill piece? I couldn't find one. What I did find though was a Curve top cover that had the grill already installed, so I ordered that from Hong Kong. Great news, it showed up today! Well, I bent the isht out of it removing it from the Curve top cover. I straightened it out best I could and put it in the new Storm top cover. Great! Then things really took a turn for the worst...

I installed the membrane next and that went pretty well, despite the fact that I have big thumbs and the parts are tiny. Everything was neatly in place and I thought I had a slam dunk. Not so fast!!! I popped the shiny new top cover on and pressed on both sides of the top. HARD AS A FREAKIN ROCK! Yep, the buttons were neatly placed under the cover, but for some reason they would not depress. I took it apart, moved the buttons around a little and reassembled about five times before I figured out the problem. Apparently there are little rubber pads that are supposed to go under the buttons and just like the membrane, I destroyed them when I removed the old top cover.

I give up! I spent almost two months waiting on parts and spent about $50 (including the new hard key sets...two because I broke the first one of those too...ugh), and I'm worse off than when I started. All I wanted to do was get this thing back to full functionality so I can sell it. So, I made one last move and ordered one of the fully assembled bezels posted above. Wish I had seen that two months ago! I will lose my black bezel that set this Storm apart from others, but at this point I don't care anymore. The silver trim will be just dandy for whoever buys this thing and it will be practically a brand new phone by then!
