Default Screen finally went dead

I bought my Storm 1 on release day November 23(?) 2008. It seems like just yesterday that I was fighting with the crappy launch OS. Let's not forget that I left my Storm on the roof of my car as I drove 30 miles to work . . . in the rain. All in all it's held up pretty well. But the screen started flickering about two weeks ago. I had the feeling it's time was almost up. Today, it finally happened. My 360 swivel holster is a little loose. It inverted, and the strap got caught on the door frame of my car as I exited the vehicle. Bam, my Storm hits the concrete. The battery door flies off, but the phone is otherwise intact. Unfortunately, the screen is now buggy. It won't light up unless I twist the frame of the phone at an odd angle. Nice! I suppose I could fix it . . . Nah. It's been a love-hate relationship since I first unboxed the phone. But I think it's time to move on . . . RIP BB Storm 9530.

I travel abroad quite a bit and have grown to enjoy the flexibility of a Quad Band GSM phone. I'd like to see the Droid 2 Global edition or the HTC Desire HD (if it comes to the US). To that end, I'm going to try coasting with my old school Samsung u740 until some new phones come out. With Christmas coming around, I'm counting on Big Red to drop some new global phones.

Samsung u740, that phone is ancient now!
Maybe you could purchase another BB on eBay or Craigslist to hold you over until Christmas.

Purchased a refurbished 9550 on eBay for a reasonable price. Pretty sweet as many of the accessories are on sale. The WiFi and additional memory is quite welcome. I saw some differences right away. My first day with the Storm 2 has been going very well. I don't think I will miss the 9530 . . . at all.

I was checking out the Droid X and Fascinate at the VZW store (while the sales rep checked the ESN on my eBay phone). Whoah! Pretty wicked. Now if they only had a quad band GSM version . . .

So long 9530 forum . . . I'll be sliding over to the 9550 section now . . .
