locked data services

i bought a verizion bb storm 9530 early december on a trip to the usa and while i was there the phone worked perfectly un till i came back to barbados, i came back here n i change the sim card to a digicel sim card, n i activatied the bb services but it did work, so i went back to the company digicel to find out what had happen and the manager told me that the data services on the phone had been locked, and that the phone is a cdma phone and that there is no way to get it to work, and i will have to throw it away. i am asking can someone help. i am in serious need of help, is there something i can do to get this phone to work

After you put in the sim, you need to go to:

Options>Mobile Network>Network Technology and be sure it is set to GSM/UMTS
