Default Help! Phone hard key isn't working

Not sure what happened, but to dial out I have to really repeatedly jam the phone button down. Answering calls I can use the toucscreen but dialing out is a monumental pain.

I know how to pry off the front bottom plastic that covers the mic. I also can pry off the phone key, but that just gets me to the little bubble that makes the key pop up. Does anyone know how to get ti the actual contact layer so I can see what is going on (corrosion, PB &J, ?) and try to fix it?

I want my phone to be better at phone calling than my wife's Droid again...
