Default French data plan not working on an American BB?

So my dad recently bought a BlackBerry Storm, despite being an avid iPhone user. When he quickly realized that he couldn't figure out how to work it, he declared it a piece of crap and prepared to throw it away.

So I claimed it. I got this phone two or three days before I moved to France. It was purchased in the US on the Verizon network.

Having moved to France, I had the phone unlocked and signed up on the SFR network with an unlimited data plan. Only problem is that none of the data apps work. The only thing that works is the phone component.

Is this a problem with the settings on the phone? Some sort of regional thing perhaps? Is there a carrier that will for sure work (Orange, for instance)? Obviously, my end goal is to have a fully functional BlackBerry Storm.

Have you updated your service books to the French carrier? If not, you should do that.

Also on the phone go to Options>Mobile Network>and be sure that Network Technology is set to GSM/UMTS
