Deactivated Storm still usefull???
So I jumped ship to a Samsung Fascinate but still have the old storm. What to do with the Storm?
Well it still works as an alarm clock, I can still use it as an MP3 player, the camera and video still works, voice recorder too. What else, am I missing anything? - 10-05-2010, 08:38 PM #2
You are still missing the Cash Value.

I have had the *exact* same thought as the OP. I finally upgraded to a Fascinate after my wife's storm bricked itself (later to be resurrected) so that she could take mine, and now that i have that extra storm 9530 around I am brainstorming some ideas.
Is there any way to make slacker radio work without an OTA connection to get it set up? I can use the usb caching feature to get the music onto it, but I don't know enough about porting apps around (i still have one active storm so I could copy config files and such over).
One more thing: are there any guides to international use of the 9530? Is it really as easy as dropping on an unlock code, putting a new SIM in it and being ready to call? Now that i have the fascinate (which is nice but not world-ready) I need a contingency plan in case I am traveling to a GSM-only part of the world.Last edited by jeffmeden; 10-19-2010 at 10:29 AM.

Wifi works great to access the internet without service or a SIM card. Have used it on all my old Berries that had wifi. As far as using it overseas with a Sim card on one of the GSM networks, no problem after you unlock the GSM radio with a code. I do it here on the Rogers network with a Telus phone.

Forgot to mention that using the wifi, you must be in range, and connected to a wifi hotspot that is open, and have your Browser config set to the same.
