I recently received an message in DM6 that a new OS update is available. Unfortunately, I applied the update only an hour before leaving to the airport for a week long business trip.
After the update, my address book was disapeared and I was no longer able to synchronize my out look with my Strom.
When looking at the Organizer in DM6, the address book had a small note in pharenthesis saying (not installed).
Unfortunately ,I had no time to deal with it and spent my entire trip with no contacts on my blackberry (Thank you RIM). Upon my return, I googled the issue and it seemed like many other users experienced the same issue.
So here is my solution, hoping it will save you some frustration and time:
1. Follow the steps to reset your device to the factory defaults as outlined
here:
On a 32-bit Windows XP to Windows 7 operating system (OS), complete the following steps:
1.1 Connect the smartphone to the computer.
1.2On the computer, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. (Note: For Windows Vista and 7 you must right click and run as Administrator)
1.3 Type cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader and then press the Enter key
1.4 Type loader.exe /resettofactory and then press the Enter key
On a 64-bit Windows XP or Windows 7 OS, complete the following steps:
1.1 Connect the smartphone to the computer.
1.2 On the computer, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. (Note: For Windows Vista and 7 you must right click and run as Administrator)
1.3 Type cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader and then press ENTER.
1.4 Type loader.exe /resettofactory and then press ENTER.
Your device will show a white screen with a message saying Wiping. When finished and fully rebooted, proceed to the next step.
2. On the device, login to your email account settings (Main Menu Page > Setup > Email Setup)
3. Once logged in, delete all your email accounts
4. Now, add your email accounts again
5. If you have more than one email account and want a specific one to be the default for calendar and address book, set it up in Options > Advanced > Default Services and Save.
6. Connect your device to the computer
7. Launch DM6 (That's what I'm using)
8. Navigate to Organizer (it will still show "Address Book (not installed)" )
9. Click on "Reset Settings" - Wait until this button is greyed out - You will notice that all settings has been removed.
10. click on "Configure Settings"
11. Configure your Address book first and then save to confirm it is working. You should see your address book is mapped to Outlook (assuming you are using outlook)
12. Configure the rest of the modules (Notes, Tasks and Calendar)
13. Synchronize your device
