Default Will a factory reset solve problem of buttons not working?

All of a sudden some of my buttons on my Storm have stopped working. The BlackBerry menu key only sometimes decides to work and lately the back button has also stared acting up. I read some other threads that suggests this could be a hardware problem, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if wiping their device has helped? I'm thinking a factory reset might help because the buttons seem to work more immediately after doing a battery pull. The longer the device stays on, the less they work. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I have nothing to lose (except time). I'm running the latest 5.X OS.

Can you file an insurance claim? You might get a Storm 2.

I have had that problems with corrupted themes, beta programs, and hybrid OS before. Have you changed anything recently? If so return to what was working and do a couple of battery pulls.

I had a problem with mu lock button that would get stuck sometimes after I pressed it. It prevented me from using the back buttons and bbkey someties. It foul take a few presses before it did anything.

I talked to Telus about that and the answer I got was depressing. Basically, my options were to send the phone to RIM (for $25 + S/H), or opt out of my current contract for $75 and get a Storm 2 on a new 3-year deal for $199.

I'm having the same issue....my quick fix is this: (Maybe it might work for you too)

The buttons work only sometimes...if they stop working, I hold down the blackberry button for a few seconds until the switch applications menu appears. Once that appears I back out of it and the buttons work fine for a while. Usually until my screens turns off again...

Kind of a pain but it makes the buttons works so my phone actually has those functions.

Try it...hope it works for you.

First, I recognize this as being an old thread, but I hope this input is none the less useful. I would start by determining is this a hardware problem or if it is caused by a corrupt program. Hopefully, you have backed up your device. Start your storm up in safe mode. If your buttons are working while in safe mode then proceed to delete the most recently installed app or theme. Exit safe mode (reboot phone).
Repeat as necessary until u find the problem app or theme.

Thank you for reading.
