| | What happens if older OS is officially released?
I'm new to BB and right now I'm running .122. If Verizon ever does an "official release" of an OS that is older than what I'm running (like .113) what can expect to happen with my phone? Will it try to do an auto update either through OTA or DM, or will it always tell me that the update available is older than the one I have and let me choose NOT to install?
Thanks,
Grey
P.S. Dear Search Police... I did search for this and couldn't find an answer?

you won't be forced to do anything, you'll just go about business as usual.

I doubt it will do anything. If you look at DM right now, it always suggests .75 as the "perferred" upgrade but doesnt force or do anything automatically.

You'd just keep on going like business as usual. As far as your phone or DM is concerned, you're running the most recent software, because it's just doing a simple mathematical calculation. Is the version number reported by your phone greater or less than what the update server says it has? If it's less, it prompts to update, otherwise no further action is required.

(If the OTA upgrade is smaller number than .122, that is)

If an older OS is released and you are running a newer OS, you will not get any notification of an OTA update since the server will recognize you are running something newer. When you connect to DM it will do what it does now and show you that the recent release is a preferred update but it won't install it unless you want to install it. As moosc said, you don't have to do a wipe before installing an OS since one of the steps in the installation process is a device wipe.

Clearly a huge waste of time... |

If it's lower than what you currently have, and you're not having any particular issues with whatever you're running, I'm not sure why you'd want to, but... In that case you'd have to go back to some release version lower than the OTA to do an OTA upgrade.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Ha, I was going to say maybe the skies above crackberry.com will open up and bad things would happen ... But............
All in all if they release what they think is offical. I don't see many people using it anyways. Crackberry always wants something better but as for stability... Well we all what that means.... | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
