Upgrade 5.0 problems
Help! Been trying to upgrade my storm to the new auth rel 5.0 but hangs while downloading device software. Right now it's hung (30+ minutes) while downloading module 108 of 327. In the past I've gotten around 200 before hanging. A co-worker is having similar problems. Tried calling VZW but they werent aware of any problems getting the upgrade.

My Desktop Manager for Mac failed to download the OS to completion several times. Once I only had 3 files left to download! Anyway, after I got the failure message the last time, I just disconnected the Storm USB connection, stopped and restarted the DM, and reinserted the Storm USB. The Desktop Manager then resumed downloading the rest of the files and eventually installed the OS. Don't know if your problem is the same, but I hope this helps. - 10-26-2009, 01:23 PM

Thanks, I'm using the desktop manager on my PC. Tried it for a couple hours at home before heading to work and had this issue. Having the same issue now that I am at work. But my friend at work just got the download fine ... many failed attempts. So, I will keep retrying. Perhaps RIM's server is getting overwhelmed.

Joem, looks like that is only for the desktop manager ... not for the Storm device OS

I had that problem as well. Had to try the install like three times and then finally it downloaded completely. No I am having a different problem. On "Task In Progress (10 of 11)" it is hanging up. I got an error message stating that DM couldn't communicate with my phone. So hit "retry". So far it's been going for an hour now on this same stage "wait for device initialization". I think I may have a bricked phone here. I figured it would be a quick upgrade as usual, but of course not now. Any ideas? I need my phone for my business and I need it now.

I'm on task 3 of 12 (wonder why I have one more task than you do -- maybe because I have so many apps LOL). What is task 10? Is that something critical to your phone?

DM Upgrade Only
I was up in the middle of the night last night and logged in to the DM (this is NOT an OTA upgrade) to look for the upgrade. As soon as I logged in, it popped up. The upgrade went very smooth but as always it took a bit of time. I would not ever stop it as I bricked my Storm on the .148 build and had to take it back to VZW. Even they could not bring it back after 300 jewels on the paddles. It was DOA so they traded it out. I now will not ever touch the phone while its feeding the new builds.
I would have to say with as many folks jumping in and going for the new build, somehow it must slow everyone down. I would try the early morning hours when only the undead are sleeping. I had a complete 12-12 and it rebooted just fine. Good luck to you. I have three more to do for some non-computer savvy buddies. - 10-27-2009, 12:48 AM #12
I forgot to mention I had to reset most of the app permissions to get them all to work. QuiclPull still works but the schedule does not and don't try it while its plugged in either. It kinda goes nuts after the reboot. Pandora? Well it hangs with about 26 seconds remaining in each song. Till Steelthorn fixes that, once must hit the pause and then play again.
