Default UNLOCKED STORM: changing from EDGE to edge?

Hey guys, i have my unlocked storm but one thing that i notice is that my EDGE goes in and out of EDGE and edge. Once in a while i will be able to receive my email and maybe go on the internet. BUT most of the time about 90% of the time it sucks i cant use it at all. I have the services books as well. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?? I read something about the "radio" but how do you tell what version you are using. I have also tried the hybrid version of the software...

Thanks for any input or help!!

Most people to seem to have the most success with the 4.7.0.90 radio code on unlocked devices. Do a search for lyricidal's hybrids and you will find plenty of info on how to swap radio codes

if you dont want to put a hybrid on your phone what will help is you go to manage connection, mobile network options, and change the network mode to just 2g. it wont completly fix it but you will notice the difference.

what i ended up doing was using a hybrid version of the software and i went to the .90 radio. what i did notice though is a HUGE improvement in the EDGE.

To answer your question CBPilu it would show EDGE but when i would go to use the internet it would go right to edge. When on edge it would not send me my emails or do internet at all. As soon as i did the hybrid version of the software, it showed EDGE and has not went off EDGE since. Ive been on the phone with the internet and its working fine and as well of emails.

I found that radio .90 would cause constant reboots and VSODs. I am using standard .148 and it is pretty stable. The only real issue I have is if I go to the T-Mobile site, all others seem to work ok.

I have had the best success with the 90 radio too. using a mix of 148, 151 and 5.0 files in a shrunken OS. still have some OS lags, issues and reboots every now and then i guess due to the 90 radio code, at least that is what i read. waiting to try OOAKPC latest hybrid to see if it helps.

Default Problem with EDGE and Swap-a-Radio

Hey everyone, I get really crappy AT&T "EDGE" connection. It always goes to "edge" I tried using Swap-a-Radio with my storm 9530 but have been running into some issues:

First, I'm using windows xp and the only CDMA file I can find is located in a hidden file that is in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Adam's\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader Cache\f5f4309cbf89061408b3602b71756e937010edc1

This is a different directory than most of the tutorials say it should be. I don't know if that is a problem...

Second, I launch Swap-a-Radio using this file, it replaces the file, and I launch App Loader to update the phone's radio file. When I check the "About" section in the phone it still reads "v4.7.0.148 (Platform 4.0.0.181)". This is the same as before I replaced the radio file. So it seems like it's not updating the phone's radio file.

Anyone know how I can change the radio file to get better EDGE connection?

    Thanks.

I also have a storm on att.. Due this upgrade to the latest os which is 151, and redo the internet and mms fix. After that disable the apn settin
gs and turn of the radio wait a minute turn it back on..that solved my edge problem , now I have 95% EDGE . I also have no problems with apps that require data

Thanks jsanta. I disabled the apn and reset the mobile connection. Seems to have a good EDGE connection so far... If that doesn't work I'll try the new OS as well.

Have you had any issues with Pandora not working on your phone? It loads the home screen but that gives an error that there is no network. After that it goes from EDGE to edge for about a minute or so.

I used to use the Curve with no problems with internet connections. This Storm is a real pain in the ****.

    Switch 2G & 3G to just 2G
    Disable TCP
Turn connection of for a min or two then back on, havent had one flicker yet, knock on wood.

    Yay .151!!

Anyone know how I can change the radio file to get better EDGE connection?

    Thanks.
i upgraded to .151 recently and before with any OS i swapped the radio file out, i was using .148 with the .132 radio file using the swap tool in my sig, but with .151 i got a constant EDGE right off the bat, i did follow the steps in my sig for edge to EDGE fix, havent lost EDGE yet or had it fliker, i would try OS .151.

two ways to tell, go into the Loader Files>OS Version>CDMA folder and check the following

    75: 14,273 KB
    86: 14,284 KB
    90: 14,319 KB
    99: 14,327 KB
    103: 14,328 KB
    109: 14,328 KB
    113: 14,323 KB
    122: 14,311 KB
    132: 14,313 KB
    148: 14,314 KB
    VZW 148: 14,319 KB

    or open the DM and go through the loader, click on core or system i forget which off-hand and choose detail, the top item is the radio, here are the versions;

    4.0.0.82 --- 4.7.0.65
    4.0.0.94 --- 4.7.0.75
    4.0.0.96 --- 4.7.0.76
    4.0.0.105 --- 4.7.0.83
    4.0.0.107 --- 4.7.0.85
    4.0.0.108 --- 4.7.0.86
    4.0.0.114 --- 4.7.0.90
    4.0.0.125 --- 4.7.0.99
    4.0.0.131 --- 4.7.0.103
    4.0.0.136 --- 4.7.0.109
    4.0.0.144 --- 4.7.0.113
    4.0.0.143 --- 4.7.0.114
    4.0.0.153 --- 4.7.0.122
    4.0.0.162 --- 4.7.0.132
    4.0.0.174 --- 4.7.0.141
    4.0.0.181 --- 4.7.0.148

i would try OS .151, im on AT&T and after installing .151 i have a constant EDGE and havent ahd to switch out radio files, i did follow the steps in my edge to EDGE fix in my sig, try the steps first then either swap out the radio file or try running OS .151.
