Lightbulb Unlocked/debranded OS for 9530?

My friend gave me his VZW Storm 9530, unlocked it. I would like to get rid of the provider bloated OS, maybe get some features back, I know the 9700 HAD wifi calling, but unless it was purchased unlocked the provider disabled it. So basically i need unlocked OS/firmware, if at all possible with the storm.

Thanks in advance !

The OS will have nothing to do with what features are available. All OS versions are the same pretty much no matter which carrier releases it. Just after activation on the network, the carrier pushes the content on your device.

The firmware is what need to be changed but you can't do that without using illegal software to debrand your device

I never knew debranding a device was illegal, cell phone carriers screw us over in so many ways.

If you are going to state something, at least have your facts straight.

It's illegal because the FCC says so, not the carriers. It's a Federal law.

As to "wifi calling" by which I assume you mean UMA, the device and the carrier network need to support it in order for it to work. It doesn't have to do with the OS version. If that feature is important to you, then you need to get a different device, one branded to a carrier that supports UMA.

Well you can shrink stuff out of the OS....

Mush of the carrier stuff is pushed when it registers on the network.

It's really just launchers that take you to the link to download whatever it is.

Best bet is to just "hide" them in the menu and forget about them forever....

Yea thats what i did, now to figure out what device i actually want to use, over the last week I've received a bold 9000, an htc FUZE and the 9530. I used to think at&t versions were bloated, after doing a factory reset on the 9530, Verizon branded devices are full of more useless crap than any other phone I've had. For some reason on the storm, instead of shortcuts to get applications, the applications were installed during the factory reset. There was FIVE megabytes free on the 9530 right after the wipe/reset. I used DM and crackutil to get rid of the unnecessary junk.

What a tool.....I had a storm for like two years the phone has the same features no matter what Os goes into it all that changes is the memory(slightly) radio(quality) and maybe bugs with keyboards or cameras and such things but overall its all the same.Maybe boot time speeds up.

If you remove alot of useless apps on your pc you should have somewhere between 30MB -36MB free space at least from the various storms ive serviced
