- g Pong balls!? I thought you said, "King Kong's Balls!"
10-27-2009, 06:05 PM #26
To clarify it was a plain text email. In my ferver I changed it from plain text to rich text and then sent it. So I screwed up the test case. This why tests should be scripted out and then executed according to the script. That was civics punt about defects appearing for features that used to work. You feature test the new stuff but then regression test the original features.

What is weird for me is that I have been in plain text emails where the links are dead and during the process of reading the email after over a min of reading data arrows start going and all of a sudden the links work. If I back out of that email and go back into the very same email they are dead again. I have had this numerous times but can not duplicate it knowingly.

Patches: You gotta tell your "friend" to get "get a life, Man!" Trying to QA test 12+ devices and working long hours can nail your body & mind--I have been there too! I managed a large software QA team and even did the testing myself...wherein one of my guys sadly just dropped from exhaustion and another just never came back...we were under huge pressure from management to pass the app...damn JAVA coding! Visiting your friend in the hospital is no fun...
Civic: Your point is well-taken. Regardless of whether the html issue is a .230, .323 or a .328 issue, proper testing scripts NEED to be used consistently, for every OS revision. Without it, RIM will continue to re-introduce bugs in succeeding OS versions. This means that EVERY tester must follow a set protocol (a test script) during testing...no exceptions! These scripts must be continuously updated as new known variables become provable. Most end-users don't understand the level of skill required to QA test...it is part Science, part Art. A rational procedure must be developed, tested and proven (Science), whereas the tester must also have a creative approach (Art) which helps him figure out different ways the end user or Called Procedure can "break" the code (forced testing). YOU have to focus on the problem, but also look at the big picture. It is a very mentally tiring process, as you well know!
Patches & Civic: thank you for all your suggestions, comments and help that you provide this community. I always enjoy reading your submissions.
You both ROCK!

You probably don't get what I mean by Plain Text emails. I mean ENCODED AS Plain Text. It doesn't mean just text emails with no pics. lol Set your email client to generate only text emails and send your BB an email with an email address, phone number, or website link and none of them will be selectable.

hey all, i just found this bug myself. and here is a way to duplicate the problem within 5 mins. first do a reboot/battery pull, then go into blackberry maps, enable the gps search function from the menu so it finds you. now pull up the menu again and send; to your email, mms. and the link you get will be plain text and non selectable, but do a battery pull and after you boot up go into your mail and the text is selectable and works....
note: the first battery pull is optional and prob not necessary

ps is someone has a fix for this issue pleas pm me - 10-30-2009, 10:47 PM #31
The non selectable links in emails were a big problem for me. There were also a few other problems with my phone running 328. I was going to go back to 323, but I thought I'd try 327 first.
I loaded it up last night and my phone has been running quite well today. Links in email is working fine again. Also have not had a few of the other issues (black screen, dropping signal) - 10-30-2009, 10:57 PM #32
Ive actually had the same issue with some of my emails. I notice that if I send a link to myself via email that it is selectable, but when I copy and paste a link in an email to myself I always make sure to hit the space bar after pasting the link so that it recognizes it as a link in the email before sending it.
If i get an email from stupid myspace telling me that some crybaby wants to be my friend, then the link that it asks me to follow cannot be clicked to go to it.
I have this free app I downloaded a long time ago called Forward reply and edit. When I get one of those emails with the bum links, i use my forward reply and edit option like im about to forward the message, scroll down to the link and Im off.
I know thats kinda lame, but Im not too sure if I want to wait around for RIM to fix it. It should have been caught obviously, but from reading it doesnt seem like everyone is impacted, so I am not ready to run my size thirteen Adidas on anyone yet.
Anyway I know for sure that only some emails are like that when I get them. And Im not doin anything special when I email links to myself, just copying and pasting them in an email from my free yahoo account, not changing any settings to plain text or html this or that at all. - 10-30-2009, 11:48 PM #33
I already covered the fix for this:

I tried reading that, but it seemed to be more bickering than anything else so I didnt bother to finish.
I dont see any reason to blast someone who is offering help, an opinion, or anything else. If you dont agree, dont. Ive been trouble shooting 9530's since they launched and recognize that not all bugs impact all user's.
The Get Plain Text thing is cool, but it sounds like not everyone has that option available to them. That being the case, other options were provided. If the options provided dont work for you, that doesnt mean they are wrong or stupid, it just means they dont work for you, or you dont need them.
Im surprised the Mods let that go on for so long. - 10-31-2009, 03:20 PM #38I'm a "Storm" trooper!
Rockin' 5.0.0.419
- 10-31-2009, 08:08 PM #39
Tho I am not running the OS being discussed here, have the same issues with my OS ie 5.0.0.238.ie often email links cannot be accessed by the native browser. But the funny part is on those instances where they are not clickable, I get an option in the dropdown menu that says ; open in OPERA MINI .And links in that particular email can then be accessed in Opera Mini 5.Also I have Berry Popup on my Storm which gives me a preview of all incoming emails , and links accessed via Berry popup always open in Opera Mini 5.

It was working BEFORE so why break it NOW
I completely agree. I resent the fact that this "upgrade" (.328) requires me to spend a dozen hours on forums and trying this and that on my own in order to make my Storm work as well as it did before the upgrade.
One step forward, two steps back.
Really seems sloppy. - 11-07-2009, 09:06 PM #42
Where to you find "Get Plain Text?"
- 11-07-2009, 09:20 PM #43
The most obvious answer to me on this would be that the email is already formatted as plain text. If so, you can't "get plain text" in a plain text email. I'm just guessing that the emails that poster was able to use a "get plain text" option on were formatted RTF or HTML. Just a guess...
