Default looking for assistance

I'm pretTy much a noob in reguards to installing leaked OS's on my storm. I have been running .328 since it came out and I'm getting bored with the phone. I want to install the newest leak .871 I think or any other recommended leaks. I downloaded it onto the computer today and saved it to the downloads file and now I'm stuck on what I need to do next. I have looked and read many posts on how to do this but I haven't had any luck. Can someone post a link or explain in "dummy" terms the easiest way to get this done. I will say I'm sorry now for posting this because I know theirs a million threads telling people how to do this. And I'm sure I'm going to be told to search and I have. I guess I just haven't found that magical thread yet.

Everyone is a noob at this at some point in their life. First things first: install the Desktop Manager software that came with the phone, or do a google search for the latest Desktop Manager and install that. Once that install is completed, click to installl the OS you downloaded.

Next after making sure you have Desktop Manager (DM) and the OS installed to your computer, start up DM and plug in your phone. You are going to want to make a back up of all your info so click that and save that file to your computer.

After your backup has been made exit out of DM and go to this location on your pc: C:/ Program files/ common files/ research in motion/apploader

Look for a program called Loader.exe and start that. If your phone is connected to your PC still you should see your device pin and click next and follow the steps on screen. To verify the OS you can click the modules tab to make sure they all say what OS version you want to install, but it should give you a choice in the beginning. Let the program do its thing and leave the phone alone, it could take 20-40 minutes to do an upgrade. Once the phone turns completly back on you are good to go and installed a leaked OS.

To restore your settings and contacts restart DM and instead of backing up the device you want to click restore and choose the save you made earlier. Hope that helps, I'm typing at work so the file path may not be 100 percent but it should be pretty close, you may have to enable hidden folders on your pc as common files is usually hidden buy default.

Thanks for the info. I will be giving this a try tonight. I have been reading and am I supposed to delete the vendor file also. I'm a little fuzzy on getting that done but I'm ready to start trying some of these OS's.

Yes, do delete the vendor file before executing the AppLoader file.

I was really sceptical about trying different OS's for fear of bricking my phone but boredom took over and now I am rocking .871. Thanks guys for the info on how to accomplish this. Wished I would have tryed this a long time ago. Its like a new toy again and it will tide me over till I figure out what the next phone will be for me. Thanks again

Hi!!!!!!
I still not able to set up my emails in my Blackberry Storm. I had done the below :
Advanced Option -> Host Routing Table -> Message Registration Sent and then I received the message that "your handheld has been registered with the wireless network.
But when I try to set up the email, I received the message on the screen that "Register your device".
What should I do? Kindly help me in the matter.

Are you trying to set up a new email or get a previously used one back. Only thing I would say to check is your service books and make sure your email address is in there. If its not showing them call your service provider and tell them you need your email service books sent to you. That's all I can think of.

Did you delete through Control Panel rather than just delete the files? If so, good, if not, bad!

Did you install the 900 series OS after downloading it? If so, good, if not, bad!

Be sure you have the appropriate OS for your phone.
