Default I need advisement on transitioning...

I early adopted the original Storm. Put up with the original two handsets (one work, one personal) for a year, swapped with warranty for two late model Storm 1's just last month (a gazillion times better than the crap I had before), and am finally eligible for one upgrade.

I'm at a complete and total loss. I've had cell phones since I was 16 (15 years ago) and this is the first time I've ever had new phone anxiety. I don't want to be stuck with more crap. Is it just Verizon? Should I just abort this contract and move along? I'm literally just disgusted with the fact that I was forced to cope with such a crappy product and that they take zero responsibility for how poorly made it was and how many problems it caused its users.

If anyone has advisements, I'm open to another Blackberry or a different phone altogether. My heart was set on a Pre Plus but then, rumors started to float about Palm going down and I don't want to be saddled with a no support handset either. My needs are excellent reception, contacts, and calendar... messenging next. No need for games... good battery would help. Also, for my work phone, I'm fine with a dumb phone if anyone can offer solutions there...

Thanks in advance. Be well.

Many (including myself) are eagerly awaiting the Nexus One for Verizon.

Android OS is the next logical step forward and currently the Nexus One is the phone to have that most-closely resembles what the Storm should probably have been to begin with.

Of course, someone will argue or I will get flamed, but that is the best answer.

I might also point out that the above information will change in about three months as HTC releases the Desire and the Incredible - both are amazing phones.

Your needs really put you square in the BlackBerry arena. A BB will handle your needs perfectly. Now then, that said, here are your alternatives.

If you're willing to leave Verizon, get a 9700 Bold. Its got a good reputation, handles everything a BB does well, and has good battery life.

If you'd like to stay with Verizon, hang on a little longer and wait for the 9650 Bold (what was supposed to be the new Tour). That is another one that should be worthwhile.

Based on your dislike of the Storm, it might be best to avoid the Storm2.

Those would be my recommendations. I'm sure others will have other suggestions as well.

P.S. Now that Ayrow has posted as well, definitely take a look at the Android phones. The one thing I don't know about them is battery life, but if they have good real world battery life, they may be worthwhile considering as well.

I was actually going to say you might like the Storm2, as it is such a vast improvement headache wise over the Storm, but Krypto might be right. (as usual )

As far as battery life you're not looking at anything better than the Storm with the Storm2, but I've heard nothing but good things about the 9700. That was going to be my initial suggestion.

If it was up to me (in Fantasy Land) I'd give every Storm owner a Storm2 just so they could see what 'should have been'. It really is a night and day difference, but you might not want to take the chance, which is understandable.

So yeah, I guess I'd go with recommending the 9700 as well. If you don't want to leave Verizon, My only suggestion is the Storm2 or hold out however long for the Essex. They have the 8530 as well, but from the people I've seen with them the battery life is atrocious, on par with the Pre.

And Ayrow, I wouldn't go as far as to say the Nexus One is what the Storm should have been, at all. I don't think anyone was expecting the Nexus One when they heard about the Storm, and if they did it would only take one quick glance at the rest of RIMs line up to realize that would never happen. I think the Storm2 is exactly what the Storm should have been originally, just as the Essex will most likely be what the Tour should have been all along.

If you need a good business phone then stay with BB, just not a touch one. The curve is always solid. If you want eye candy and such then get something else. I moved to a N1 because i wanted eye candy plus i wanted to get away from verizon. If you can afford the service on 2 phones then yea stay with verizon. I didnt want the bloated bill anymore so tmobile fills my needs. Yes i know their coverage isnt as good but it works for me.

How do you justify a Storm2 (the only other touch option since he already HAS a Storm) not being as good for business?

I dont mean to sound negative. I personally didnt like the S2. Same phone with a little more memory and wifi just didnt do it for me. If it works for ya then great, enjoy. As i said though for eye candy the S1 or S2 provides nothing. Just really bland. The OP wanted opinions so i threw one out there..lol
