Default HELP NEEDED... VZW 5.0.0.328 looking for best OS upgrade

I have a VZW 9530 that is runninig on the initial 5.0.0.328 OS. I have corporate enterprise mail server and am fully synced to mail and calendar.

I have become very frustrated over the memory issue and even trying to shrink my current OS has not improved the memoy at all (I use faceboook, twitter, NBA Game Time, Podcast, BB Maps, BB Traffic, App World, Poynt, ScoreMobile). My total app allocation is approximately 9MB.... no matter what I do i cannot get more than 23 MB of available app memory (even after many attempted shrinks). I just did a memory clean and pull and after 1 hour i am down to 18. i expect that it will be near 12 by day's end.

I have surfed through the MANY threads about Operatiing Systems for the 9530 and it seems that the two that get the most positive news is .419 and .591.

Before i begin to experiment, i was wondering if anyone could tell me which may be better of these two (or if there is one that far surpasses these). The apps i run are listed above and i really am looking for (in order):
  • Better memory app with far fewer leaks and much more space
  • No big drop off from the current radio that is part of the VZW .328 release
  • Better battery life (or at least no less)
  • No significant drop off in performance (hopefully an improvement)

I am also wondering if any of these upgrades will screw up with enterprise server access (BES).

Again, i have not seen in all the threads i have read answers to all these questions.

Any help would be most appreciative.

I can tell you that 5.0.0.419 is a solid and stable OS. It was the last one I ran before moving to Storm2.

It freed up app memory, battery life was better. Can't help with BES, I'm a BIS user.

you can find 419 here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...646D38BC2145CA

I second going to .419. I saw the biggest performance increase going from .328 to .419. I have not seen much performance increase in the versions after .419.

This is helpful. I am assuming that it is not dependant on the carrier, since the Vendor.xml file gets deleted.

My main issus now would be whether this would screw up BES activation.

To upgrade do i have to wipe my existing device of the current OS thus removing all the system settings (including BES) or can i just install 419 over 328?

If i just install over 328, will all my settings and apps remain?

I installed the 419 and it is a huge improvement. My memory is 39 mb and no sign of leaks.

Thanks so much for all your help.

There still appear to be memory leaks but at least i hasve a faster browser and more memory.

Is there a way to address the leaks?

A memory leak is a type of programming bug that occurs when a program allocates more memory than it frees. This way, an application can run out of memory and cause the system to crash.

If only the "professional" programmers at RIM could learn to write decent code!
