Exclamation Exclusive: Did RIM and Verizon Put The Storm3 On Hold For LTE?

As was Tweeted over the weekend, we received some Storm3 info but held off until we can better verify some of the information gathered. First off, as is already known, there is no Storm3 this fall, as it appears that the Storm2 “refresh” will be RIM and Verizon’s push to get users onto OS6. The refresh gives the Storm2 double the RAM to 512MB to better accommodate the new OS.

Now onto the good stuff. We have learned that the Storm3 was delayed just a bit this past late Spring, as Verizon may want to launch the device with LTE for data. We have reports from separate sources that give us two possible launch time frames. One being May of 2011 to coincide with RIM’s WES conference. The other date being next November in 2011. Why the separate dates? We are hearing it all depends on how well the LTE rollout goes, and how much coverage is around by May. If LTE gets delayed at all, look for a November launch. As always, when we get more we will post it up!

This sounds in line with all of the other reports that have been coming in, not much new. My question is - when is the S2.5 coming? I think S1 owners are not wanting to wait until May, or even November 2011 (assuming they want to stay with a BB touchscreen).

+1. Also going to call BS on them waiting until November 2011 because they don't know what LTE coverage will be. They know now that they will be in 25 + markets in November 2010 covering over 120 million subscribers. To me this one is just stringing together several rumors.

And if they wait until November 2011 and all they have is an S3 with 512 RAM, then RIM shouldn't even release another storm. It would be a joke.

They should release the real next Storm and not some refresh ASAP. Even if they do it on 3G with 4g to come later via a software update. (i.e just turn on that part of the stack)

So what is this Storm2 "refresh" entail? Does that mean everyone with a Storm2 will be given new hardware update for free on Verizon's behalf (highly unlikely), or does this mean a newer Storm2 model with more RAM and that's all it is?

I'm satisfied for now...keeping my S1.

Thats what I would guess, more RAM, and maybe a few other very minor updates, but otherwise just a S2. Obv not for free, though.

Google Odin refresh. Someone leaked a screen shot of a slide frpm a presentation. Basically the storm 2 Refresh is the storm 2 with 512 RAM, 5 mp camera and WiFi hot spot. And it will run BB6. Very minor update, and not very attractive to most since BB6 has a lot of lag on the torch's older 624 MHz chip and the Storm 2 refresh would be running a 528 MHz chip that the S2 has. Possible that it would be about the same due the dedicated GPU on the S2 chip that Torch's chipset lacks but who knows.
