Can't restore - BDM frozen with "Working..." after .230 install
I've been running .151 for a while now but decided to give 5.0 a try tonight. I installed Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0 on my laptop (Windows 7 RC) and installed .230 following instructions in these forums (install .191, delete RIM Internal Tools, run Loader.exe). The install completed, and the software is running on my Storm right now, but the restore phase of the installation did not complete, so I have none of my data.
I've had this happen before, and it was never a big deal because I backed up and was always able to restore. However, when I opened the Desktop Manager, the screen was grayed out with the window title "Working - Blackberry Desktop Manager." I disconnected and reconnected, restarted several times, and no luck. I found instructions online for properly removing the Desktop Manager + Device Software and reinstalling, but I still experience the same issue. I even put a fresh install of BDM 5.0 on a Windows XP machine and tried there - same thing.
Do I need to wipe my device and start over? .230 seems to be running fine, but I can't use the Desktop Manager whatsoever. Loader.exe freezes as well. I can easily re-download the apps I need and sync my calendar/contacts, but at some point I need to be able to use Desktop Manager again to back up or update. I thought I had a bad installation at first, but experiencing the same result on both computers leads me to believe it's the device. I've tried Desktop Manager with and without the Media Manager. - 09-24-2009, 10:37 AM

BDM 4.7 allowed me to restore...should have tried that in the first place.
