Very possible you ended up killing it. There's circuitry in the battery to protect it from overcharge, but a short I doubt it could save it from. Extended batteries are nice, but considering the bulk a Storm has, you might be happier with a couple OEM instead. They're usually pretty cheap. Just picked up a J-M1 off Amazon for less than $10, including shipping, for my new 9930. There are plug in chargers to be found for $4, that will work any chargeable battery.
