I've got a sneaking suspecion that the 9530 and the 9500 are almost identical, the 9500 even trips CDMA code it shouldn't, so I'm left wondering if the 9500 and the 9530 are the same thing with CDMA disabled in software, the thing even has "Qualcomm 3G CDMA" on the back just below the battery cover, but I thought Vodafone only ran GSM based 3G networks...

Also you will find the device(s) only have 1 radio for network communication, it'll be a software or DSP based device that can be software programmed for what it needs, very few radio chips made these days are ever "hard coded" with specific freqs and protocols etc.

Vodafone's Storm (9500) needs CDMA radios so it can roam on Verizon's network when brought into the US. They're owned by the same group so it would make sense to have them share roaming revenues.

FYI the "GSM 3G" or UMTS also uses CDMA technology which Qualcom has many patents for. Also, like others said, the phone also probably has the CDMA based standard that Verizon uses.
