Its not that they need to grow a pair...its that they already have a pair but have their legs crossed like a woman and suffocating the pair.

Yeah the whole Model of Development, Deliver to Partner, Test, Deploy is somewhat f'd up here.

CX Commented on lots of lessons learned with Storm 1 release. I wonder if some of these lessons are in the Vendor/Partner sphere and better cooperation.

You're naive, sorry to say it.

Default And some of you said I was naive...

Based on Kevin's Blog entry I was somewhat on the money with how this is going to go down...

"We were told at WES we should see it hit late summer / early fall (the rollout is expected to be for all devices that are getting it at once, which means it'll likely take a bit longer to get here as they need the green light across the board before they release it)."

Unless he means something else by "Rollout" it seems that RIM is working to coordinate the release among carriers....

  • Shut down any Leaks. I would want very close control of who is seeing the OS and what they are seeing. i.e. No bad builds/No bad press
  • Work Closely with Carriers to get 5.0 through their test labs and address any and all issues they identify
  • Create a launch event, or at least some sort of PR Announcement
  • Make sure that when the announcement drops, the Carriers of Devices ready for 5.0 (9630, 9530/9500, 9000, 8900 etc.) are ready to release 5.0 upgrades within 30-60 days of announcement and that those dates are part of the announcements.

Call me naive but I have some faith that RIM is planning to do this the right way, and that is why the leaks are locked down.
I tend to agree with some of your comments. RIM need to up the game plan. The marketing behind the Storm has created expectations way beyond capability leaving a few dissappointed users. If not for Crackberry and BlackberrOs and similar web sites a paper weight would be in the making. Get on with it guys!

CX, are there any generic (yet more specific, LOL) comments you can make pertaining to the progression of the Storm 2 that would differentiate it from the original, making it a very good device. Seeing as how so many are panty-bunched about the Storm, there must be significant changes that you can tough on that might help us understand your point?

If Kevin's blog post is right then we may never see a 5.0 release. VZW takes forever to approve OS builds!

Maybe not. If his blog is correct then RIM is trying to get 5 out globally. So they are probably working with the carriers to get the builds through testing. We know VZW hadno problems launching the Storm early, so they can't exactly get high and mighty now. As long as the 5 os is better then .148 there ia no reason to hold it back.

Yeah, I'm just going of their track record with OS updates in the past. How many "better" builds were there between .75 and .148 they stonewalled? They may have jumped the gun on the Storm release, but that was the last time they did anything hasty with the Storm (IMO). RIM may be working with the carriers to encourage a 5.0 release, but they can't force VZW's hand... I'm not saying it'll be anything, but the potential is there for VZW to spoil it for everyone else (or any single carrier for that matter for everyone, not just VZW).
