Verizon.net Email Yahoo Icon?
I have a FIOS account at home and I set up my Verizon.net email on my BB. Instead of the standard email account icon on the screen, I get a picture of an envelope with a purple Yahoo "Y!" logo.
I have tried setting this up both online and on the phone with the same results. Is there a way to revert back to the regular icon.
Why is it doing this? - 01-10-2009, 04:04 PM #2
I believe verizon.net is actually a yahoo email address. I have an @sbcglobal.net address, which is actually a yahoo hosted email address.

You should call Verizon landline and see if they can help you with this. Or try Google and see if Verizon and Yahoo have some time to partnership. Since VZ is their own landline service I wouldn't think so.

AT&T does the same thing with yahoo. I truly believe that the OP's verizon.net email address is hosted by yahoo.
For example, my blank@sbcglobal.net address is hosted by yahoo, and therefore shows up as a yahoo account on my storm. AND it showed up that way on my curve and pearl before the storm.
If you look at the help section, there is Verizon|Yahoo! as one of the email options. This is probably what the OP has and why it is showing up as a Yahoo email account.I was a Treo user. Then the light of BlackBerry shone, and I was never the same. -

I also have fios and have my Verizon email set up on storm. I don't have this problem. I have the standard email icon. I do know that when I initially got Verizon internet 3 years ago, they had an add-on package with yahoo. I declined it, that could be what's causing that icon to show.

i don't know if the proper term is that yahoo hosts verizon.net email, but i do know if you go to yahoo.com and sign into the mail by hitting the mail icon, if you put your full verizon.net email address and password you can enter your verizon mail through yahoo's website, so its no surprise to me that there is a yahoo icon on my storm.

Ok...it may be just me, but....what's the big deal if it says yahoo or not?

i have a verizon.net email address and i have the yahoo icon as well... the big deal is that i know its not yahoo.. its verizon, yet it tells me it's yahoo.. cant i just get my standard icon?! lol. weird how some have the standard icon and some have the yahoo icon for a verizon.net address...

Not a big deal, but it looks ugly. On the Storm you have all the transparent black icons and the Yahoo one is a big blue eye sore.
FWIW, it happened on my Curve and my Storm. I finally just hid the icon, simple fix. Let it go to the general mail or message icon.... - 01-11-2009, 11:23 AM #16
If its that big of a deal, hide the icon and use the messages folder instead.
Also, just because the suffix is verizon.net, doesn't mean it's actually a verizon email. It is hosted by yahoo, thus making it a yahoo email address that you happen to log into at www. verizon.net.

One of the schools that I worked at this past fall has transitioned over to the Google apps services for education. Even though their address is yaddayadda@elmhurst.edu, it is actually a Gmail address.Last edited by niubeav; 01-11-2009 at 11:28 AM.

Verizon.net email used to be hosted by a few different companies. Some are MSN, some are yahoo, and i think some may even be AOL, and some are plain hosted by verizon. Verizon has appeared to have transistioned over to JUST yahoo as of right now. If you go to the support page from verizon.net, it opens up a yahoo help page.
