Newest version of AIM finally works!
I've noticed that many users (me included) were having a problem getting the AIM messenger to work on their Blackberries. The service would either not install at all, or if it did it would not allow you to sign in.
Well today I noticed on the Crackberry blog that RIM updated all of the IM services to version 2.1.42. I did an OTA download, installed, and viola! the messenger is up and running again.
Not sure if it'll help anyone else, but it certainly worked for me. Good luck! - 03-04-2009, 01:56 PM #2
2.1.42? am i missing something? my version of aim is 2.2.31. i uninstalled it and reinstalled it last night because i was having troubles signing on, it would freeze, and when i closed aim the application switcher wouldn't show up when i held bb menu key. anyway, a little off topic, but my version is 2.2.31.

Know what, you're right.
The version I have installed is 2.2.31 also.
Though the blog post clearly states 2.2.42. Strange, but it still fixed my problems.
Another thing to try, which helped me was to first uninstall AIM, then go into the service book [options>advance options>service book] and delete anything that had to do with AIM.
AIM-BBIM [KEYNEGO]
AIM VPL [Browserconfig]
AIM BBIM [BBIM]
Then I reset the Blackberry to make sure all the changes had taken effect.
After that I visited this site on my Blackberry browser:
blackberry.com/instantmessaging
Once there I chose to download AIM. Once I did all these things I finally got AIM up and running correctly. Not sure if this will work for you as well, but definitely worth a try. - 03-04-2009, 02:42 PM #4

Just wondering. With the convenience and popularity of text messaging, do we still need IM on cell phones?

Even though text messaging is a lot more popular and convenient, I agree, there are still many people that don't have text messaging plans. This is great when they are sitting in front of their computers. It's also easier to manage talking to a group then text messaging. AIM and BBM are one of my most features on the Storm.
