Major Update: LaunchPad (by Tafasa)
We are happy to announce a MAJOR update to our recently released, popular application LaunchPad. LaunchPad is a utility that allows you to create custom home screen launchers to open up your favorite website. Today, LaunchPad has been expanded to allow creating launchers to call any number you specify, or begin creating an email to any address you choose!
NEW IN VERSION 1.5.0.0
-----------------------------------
- Ability to create phone call launchers: Create an icon on your home screen that will start dialing a specified number
- Ability to create email composition launchers: Create an icon on your home screen that will start composing an email to a specified address
- Choose email, numbers and icon images straight from your Address Book when creating Phone and Email launchers
- Support for favicons when fetching website images. Previously, LaunchPad only supported the larger format image which isn't as widespread, but now LaunchPad will be able to grab the smaller favicon as well. However, favicons are usually quite small and the BlackBerry requires the icon to be a certain size, so the enlarged icon may appear distorted.
- Have up to 40 launchers on your screen at any given time (up from 25 in previous releases). When creating the 41st launcher, you will be asked to delete one first. You can create an unlimited amount of launchers over the lifetime of the application.
- Installation now happens through the browser. Don't worry, you don't need to download anything extra after the first install, but by installing in the browser, LaunchPad avoids many potential issues, be more stable, and compatible with more device/os combinations. This will hopefully resolve any issues people have had with previous releases of LaunchPad.
- No more need for "Refresh Launchers" menu item. Launcher titles should never revert back to anything other than the title you have set for them.
- General stability and performance improvements
This update is FREE for all current users! To celebrate this major upgrade, we are lowering the price of LaunchPad to $0.99 until the end of the month! The regular price of LaunchPad is $1.99. LaunchPad works on devices with 4.6+ OS, currently supporting the Bold, Tour, Curve 8900 and Storm.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are running an older version of LaunchPad, it is highly recommended you delete your launchers and the old application first and then perform a reboot by pulling your battery, before installing the new version.

I am noticing that when I try to pull up a launcher in quicklaunch it is labeling the launchers "Launcher1, etc". I realize you do not build programs to be directly compatible with other developers apps, but is there a way to change the name of the launcher to be more directly descriptive.

Pretty sweet. I like it, especially since it can use the contacts picture for the icon. Good job!

This is a killer update! The one thing I have hated with my BB is the speeddial list being so short and forgetting who i had setup as what number.....forget speed dial...now i'll just make a launcher to call them and put it in a folder called speeddial.
Thanks! - 08-22-2009, 05:34 PM #13
Absolutely brilliant solution! Great job, tafasa!

I have a request for the App Tafasa...It probably isn't possible, but I figured I would ask anyway. I rarely use the BB Browser, so is there anyway you could add an option to launch the website in Opera? Worth a shot, and I'm sure it would make a lot of people happy! Thanks!

I was thinking about that myself, some sites look better in opera and others look better in bolt. I'm gonna mess around with it today. If I come up with anything I'll report back here.

Greetings,
Great app. One quick question so far:
Is there a way to disable the function of automatically adding
' http:// ' to all of the web page launchers setup in this app?
The reason I ask, I am trying to set direct links with this program to some online radio streams. Some of them are RTSP:// addresses, and when Launcher adds the http://, it breaks the link.
A simple checkbox to 'use exact address' or something would be excellent.
Dont mean to be a pain, but would love to see this application work for me with these streams.
Cheers________
