Is it possible to disable the screen button and have the phone operate more like the torch.

Not globally. Apps like Opera Mini and mSonar's Facebook chat are touch-only, but I don't know any beyond that.

I haven't done any programming to know what the whole process involves in developing an app but in time I would like to learn. As for my situatuion right now is that I have had to open up my phone a couple times already because them little jel pads that hold the screen up have gotten punched out from either having the cell in my pocket and sitting on it or just from work, being in my lunch kit. 90% of the time the phone is in an otterbox which has saved my cell more than once but still leaves the screen vulnerable to being crushed, any thoughts. If this kind of app/function was out there I could then place a thin plastic sheet behind the screen to hold it up in the proper position, there wouldn't be any side movement at all! Then the phone would be 100% touch and just plain awesome IMO!!

If you have the Otterbox Defender, leave it in the holster to protect the screen since it sits with the back of the phone to the outside. There's no way to disable the click short of getting rid of the entire unit.
