Packaged download vs Individual downloads Quote:

About crunch being free, it may not be when they get it all done and out of beta. Who knows, but if it's as cool as they say it's going to be, i'd pay for it. | I generally never comment on threads discussing other apps, but I will attempt to reply to this query about the Empower app here..
Empower Threaded SMS app is packaged into 3 cod modules that are provided as independent download. The same 3 modules can be provided as a single download too (all you need to is change a few lines in a text file). This is what developers generally do. They package all their cods in a single download. Please note, this does not increase or decrease the size. Most end users are not even aware of this technicality and mostly they don't care.
Now, why the 3 modules are provided as independent downloads is because the Empower Threaded SMS app supports not just one Bubble Theme but multiple themes. So, if you want to install only the iPhone style Bubble theme, you can download only that. If you want to install the Classic Smiley theme, but not the GTalk style plain theme you can do that. This actually means that by packaging it separately users get the option to download only the exact components they need. This means lesser space than they would otherwise use up if everything was packaged as a single component!
Again, please note this is not an attempt at all to compare the two apps - Its the first time I have heard about CrunchSMS and have not yet tried it. Plus I believe, users are the best judge and everyone has their individual preferences. Some think size, some think features, some think price, some think fastest support etc.. So you are all welcome to try the CrunchSMS app as before
Best,
Ani.
