Funny.. i have tried using smartview multiple times.. and it never worked right.. but it did setup the dialup for me (which is how i learned the numbers to set it up without installing smartview).. guess it is YMMV or maybe cause i have a family plan instead of SEP.. but #777 has been working for me (see my other thread about it) and they have yet to charge me.. i have called mulitple times and told them i was doing it and they said "you shouldn't be able to" but they checked my bill for 4-5 months and said there is no additional charges... Maybe the #777 makes it look like the blackberry is requesting the data instead of a computer.. who knows?

Perhaps I didn't read everything but per my Sprint rep. I have SEP and the BES data package which that allows me to teather. Of course that is a "buy up" so to speak as I'm paying $20 more a month for the BES data rather than the standard BIS.

I use my BB as a modem many times at work due to certain restrictions we have on our work internet connection and it's works great. Of course it helps since I'm the email and network admin too!

eBoyDog: I have the SEP w/BES as well. So if I'm clear, you're saying if I download the software and hook up the BB to my laptop, I can use it as a modem with no extra charges. Sorry to sound clueless, but will this software realize the bb or is there a command on the software I click on?

I'm with this guy ..... my manual instructed me how to do it, I have an UNLIMITED data plan and NO ONE told me that I am not supposed to tether... I setup my connection exactly as described on SPRINTS WEBSITE and it works flawlessly.... Until someone specifically tells me that I am NOT ALLOWED to do this, I am doing nothing wrong. I have no idea what any of you people are talking about
