Lol, guess they want to move people away from buying their phones in other places.

Heh. This is a good move. Maybe they've realized that Best Buy and Radio Shack are getting the sales instead of their stores because BB and the Shack already do instant savings instead of mail-in rebates.

Also,if you go into BB or radio shack, they offer the other carriers and may talk you into another device and Sprint loses out on that customer too. They should've done this looonnnggg ago.

How nice of them to make this change after I finally just got my mail in rebate for my Style after waiting 2 months! I normally buy phones at Best Buy to avoid mail in rebates like most other savvy shoppers would do, but Sprint having buy one get one free was worth waiting for the rebate I guess. This does make it easier for people to buy at the Sprint store, but I think Sprint still needs to step up its game... Other carriers offer significant discounts on phones while Sprint rarely if ever lowers a price. (the random buy one get one free on the Style being an exception) Take the Bold for example... how long has that phone been out for? Sprint still wants $199... I think Verizon is $99 and the equivalent on AT&T or T-Mobile has even been FREE recently! Not only does Best Buy and Radio Shack offer instant rebates, but they also offer lower prices... I actually bought an Evo and returned it before I got my Style... I paid $99 for it at Radio Shack... they gave $100 instant rebate and $100 discount for trading in an old phone (gave my wifes old Razor haha)... Sprint HAD to get rid of mail in rebates to stay competitive... Why would I have paid Sprint $300 (before rebate) When the Shack was $100?! The Touch Pro 2 is STILL $199 at Sprint! I can't really complain too much about Sprint as I generally get good service (I also got a free Airave) When I add my corporate discount, I'm around $105/mo for 2 Styles (I got them before the additional $10/mo "premium extortion data fee") I find it surprising that more people don't consider the cost of the phones in arguments over which carrier is cheaper.

If you don't buy the latest and greatest, the android phone prices drop like rocks because they release too often =P. Inspire 4g is already dropping to the mid $300s and by the time the 3d phones come out even worse...

I don't think they ever applied mail in rebates when a phone is bought at the full retail price without a contract so I doubt they will lower the price, althought I'm hopeful right along with you haha

This is true for other carriers... Not Sprint! They still want $199 (with a new contract) for the Hero! Hmmm... Buy an Evo or Hero for the same price? Haha

Oh I wasn't talking rebate on full price purchase that would never happen.
If they could reduce full purchase price it would be nice.

I'm talking about off-contract prices, not subsidized.

So 3D goes for 449.00-original EVO price & they drop 4G version price.
I'm very happy with that scenario but don't think 3D will be that low....more like 550.00

Sprint never seems to lower prices. The point I was trying to make was if they wont lower a price with a new contract (the holy grail to them) they certainly wont lower retail prices either... All other carriers lower prices after the phones age (other carriers have been known to lower prices a week after a phone is released as a "special"), Sprint seems to think there is value in yesterdays technology at todays prices! haha
