Default Sprint selling the 16g for $199?

I was at Sprint the other day because my boyfriend wanted to checkout the new BB Bold, which is AWESOME by the way...
I noticed that they sold the BB Playbook for $199... I used to be on Sprint, but I didn't want to pay $80 for something I could get for $45 from Virgin Mobile. However, do I need to have a contract with Sprint to buy their Playbook for $199? The Playbook has wifi, so I was just wondering if someone could clarify that for me....

this was a promotion the price has since increased to 299.99, and no contract is required.

I just bought one from Sprint. It was 199 plus 6.50 for shipping. Great deal.

I would suspect that it is because it is considered an accessory and does not provide data plan revenue.

That makes sense, because the other tablets they sell require a data plan, hence revenue

The playbook I believe is considered an accessory and doesn't require a data plan or contract to purchase.
