All I have to say is to do it already.

They're waiting to see if Clear/Clearwire is going to have to file for bankruptcy first. They're also probably waiting to see how much churn they might be enduring with the VZW iToy. Finally, they're probably trying to figure out if their $10/4G/Smartphone premium is giving enough of a subscriber boost to Clear that will help it attract more investment, not that they can afford to even issue more bonds...

It's a sh*tty position to be in, but it's the cards they have. The unknown variable will be how much interest there is in acquiring any of the spectrum licenses held by Clear if they have to start selling assets that Sprint can't/won't lay claim to.

LTE is going to be the standard, not Wimax, so why even wait. If they can blanket the nation in 2 years, why wouldn't they? There has to be more to it than that..

Right because they've covered so much with their Clearwire partnership. What spectrum are they going to deploy LTE on because Clearwire owns all of Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum? They can't buy Clearwire outright because they will default their bonds. Sprint has backed themselves into a corner with this Clearwire partnership. Neither Sprint nor Clearwire has the financials currently to convert to LTE and do a nationwide rollout by 2013.

I wish they would just go with LTE as well, but it would destroy the relationship with most Sprint 4G phone owners. If you bought a 4G Epic or Evo in a market that has not been Wimax upgraded, you would never be able to use the 4G at home.

It couldn't be any worse than T-Mobile pushing their 4G phones when many of their customers only have EDGE speeds.

Verizon will be strong LTE by end of 2011 with good selection of LTE device in upcoming months.
Sprint on the other hand will have to pull back from 4G no more wimax device releases due to finally committing to LTE which is far from prime-time....not even close

hmm Sprints truly in deep **** this time.

Dan Hesse said there is no reason they can't deploy both lte and wimax at the same time, so I think they are ok.

It's not free though.. and they are not cross compatible device wise. IE wimax hardware devices cannot work on LTE networks. Nor can lte handsets work on wimax networks.

So even if they can deploy both, they are not complimentary... So it will end up costing regardless.

Yeah, but better they nip it in the bud earlier than later. I'd rather replace a series of hansets before they get too deep into the goo.

I'm at the point where I really just want Sprint to get it together. There is too much uncertainty, and they are going to get left behind if they refuse to make a Decision.

There is no reason they do not have a plan. Most major carriers are already making headway on their plans, yet Sprint is floundering trying to save a company that was created solely to facilitate WiMax. Now this same company is getting Sprint in the Tailpipe as they prepare to leave Sprint for LTE.

This is one gigantic Cluster*@#€, and I am starting to think that as a Customer, I'm going to be left out in the cold. There is no reason a company of this size should be this inept.

The reality is, you aren't really going to get screwed because you already were screwed.

Most don't have wimax access. Sprint knows this. If wimax devices ceased functioning on wimax networks in a year (likely it will take longer, but the point remains), it would have a minimal impact on consumers in general because most of them did not have wimax to begin with...

It was oversold and under-existed in the first place. So there isn't a great loss because the gain didn't exist for the masses in the first place.

Bingo. Pitch and ditch before getting dragged into the abyss. Conversion now would do minimal damage while there's only X number that are affected. Click in and standardize nationwide so everyone has a hand in that which will benefit the broadest customer base possible, making a WTF into a win-win. ,

Oh, and Sony chose the BetaMax, but that screwup didn't exactly put them out of business. Live, learn, get the flock on down the road and get to the next river.

That explains why I'm in pain all the time. I'm in an area where there will be no 4G. So that means I will be on my own. Which, doesn't bother me.

It'd be easy, Sprint buys out TMo and there ya go. Instant nationwide LTE lol
Not quite that simple obviously, but...
