Default Motorla Droid Pro Coming to Sprint

i have this same thread in the android thread, but i think this is the better location. Motorola Droid Pro is heading to Sprint... I hate to say this being a blackberry user but i been eying that phone, i like its size and screen, and best yet its got a keyboard, i hate sliders. I know the bold touch is out there but i feel its just to big and wide and doesn't have a big enough screen to compensate that size. And nothing has been made official if its coming to Sprint. I had a 9650 but traded it in for a Style 9670. I just like the smaller form factor with a decent screen. scary thought i even checked out the HP Palm Veer for AT&T but i would never switch. I might jump into the darkside the android bandwagon. The new RIM products look good but what worries me is there not backwards compatible so there goes no OS 7 for my style, Also when RIM does put out the QNX products its said to require a dual core processor, so these new phones might not even be able to upgrade to the new OS either. I might try android and stick it out till at least RIM puts out the QNX, any thoughts?

If you like it go for it. A lot of Android users say the phone isn't that great though.

This phone caught my eye too. It certainly has the looks of a blackberry about it.

Engadget article.

i seen that but that's mostly exchange problems and battery life that sucks. i don't use exchange and alot of people had recommended to upgrade to the 1800mah battery which Sprint had already advertised it having it, but overall people like the phone for its quickness and smoothness. hopefully this newer version took care of some of the kinks it may also have.. but that's what the 30 day warranty is for. Im picky with my phones, I want something with a decent screen and a keyboard. I had the tour then the Pre, even had the Samsung extinct then got the bold 9650 traded it for the style. the Bold touch would be perfect if it was the same size as the current bold like the 9650 and 9700 series. If there was any rock solid news or rumor that Sprint was getting the torch i wouldn't even be here posting. fact is the droid pro fits the bill and my needs. Lastly as i mentioned before these new blackberry's coming although good and can compete there wont get QNX which is what RIM should be putting out now.

You buy phones for what they are now.

Most Android phones are not properly getting upgraded, it's roughly the same problem and Android fragmentation right now is worse than BB.

So buying the droid because of potential OS updates and not buying the T2 or Bold Touch for the same reason isn't necessarily a good reason. Get it because you like the phone how it is now.

The manufacturer and carrier support for Android OS updates blows chunks...

i agree, and what i like about it is, it has a decent size touch screen, it has a decent keyboard. and its not a huge phone like the bold touch or Evo. the other stuff the bells and whistles it may have is just more gravy.

The droid pro is to top heavy to really be useful. And it requires to much of the touchscreen. And without either tiny fingers or a navigation tool it is hard to navigate sometimes.

I'd argue this. I was looking at BB fragmentation and the pie chart was all over the place with with 27% being the top for one version of OS and the rest 20% or less. With Android right now, 91% are using 2.2 and 2.1. The rest barely made a showing and with Honeycomb for tablets etc, Android has done a pretty good job in the past year of cutting down on the fragmentation. 65% of all Android phones are using 2.2, 26% are using 2.1, and 2.3/2.33 by the end of the year will be on virtually all new Android handsets. The main reason the fragmentation issue is disappearing is the phones from 2 years ago cannot handle the new versions of Android. The newer phones will all be compatible.

I may have to give this phone a try when it comes out. I've been a BB user for about 1.5 years, with one month of the Samsung Epic thrown in there. What I didn't like about the Epic was the form factor and battery life. Going all the way back to Palm Treo's I've always had front qwerty keyboard phones, even though I do tend to like things touch screen as well. When I saw an ad about the Samsung Replenish I went to Sprint store last week to look at it. Honestly I really liked it, and I am absolutely not a 'green' hippy person. The front qwerty with touchscreen seems like a win-win to me. But the Replenish feels pretty cheap and decided I couldn't put up with the lower resolution screen. The Motorola XPRT though looks like it might be near perfect. Obviously it would be Android again, but am pretty sure I could make that change as long as battery life could still get me through a full day without charging. I'm also not a big fan of the 'cloud' way of syncing everything, but lots of people like it so maybe it's worth trying again. I also have a Nook Color that has been rooted into an Android tablet, so I am becoming more familiar and comfortable with Android and its applications.

Oh ya, what might be the worst part about switching to the Moto XPRT on Sprint is that my now $65 everything plan would probably turn into a $75 plan right??

If you dont think locked bootloaders or lack of firmware upgrades are an issue then you have nothing to worry about...

Seriously that phone is a piece of ****. I don't go to a sprint store to buy my phone, or upgrade plans(because I have a direct sales rep) Last week, he shows me this phone, because I wanted to get something Better than the 9330 at the moment. So he shows me this Droid, and I immediately assumed it was utter ****. I don't understand why Sprint comes out with ty Androids? Sprint, only came out with 3 Good Android based phones( Evo, Evo Shift, and Epic) Every other android phone is ****. I am considering going with another provider... Or getting a way better BB, when the time comes out.

i was looking at the original droid pro just because i wanted the android platform for particular apps like the netflix and xfinity tv.
after looking at it i realized it was definetly not for me. it is about the size of an evo which in my eyes is def not a pockatable device. i like my 9650 but i do fear the 9930 will be to wide but either way i have the 9650.
i wasnt a fan of the flat keyboard, i am partial to the smiley face qwerty and the new sprint one has it slightly but not as nicely as my bold or even my old palm treo's.
i had an evo for 29 days to try it but went back to blackberry mainly because the ease of communicating with the keyboard shortcuts and the battery life. my other quarry with the android platform was apps closing. i found just like with ios, when the app is requiring alot of work it auto closes on you. that aggravated me to high ****. i would rather have my blackberry clock than have to open the app and start everything all over again.

Averagemoe, im not going to disagree on what your saying, i have heard nightmares about this droid pro. BUT the majority consensus is that people love the phone. As far as the android comment you made, you are correct Sprint current line up of good androids are the ones you mentioned BUT, Sprint is coming out with some really nice phones in the near future. Evo 3d, Nexis, Galaxy 2, photon 4g, 4 truly high end android. not to mention the mid tier android phones, there windows line up and Blackberries
