Default Method of Nextel 2013 Drawdown...

Does anyone have any idea how Sprint plans to phase out the Nextel network in 2013? Will this be a gradual thing that allows the network to operate until individual cell sites fail so coverage will disappear in a patchwork fashion over a long period of time or will they set a network shutoff date and turn the entire thing off then?

Sprint will start to offer people with Nextel phones sprint Direct Connect to avoid that situation of just cutting you off. At that point its really your choice to either move to the Sprint Direct Connect or be without service when the network is phased out.

Right, but I am wondering if it is going to be an intentional thing where a date is announced and the whole network goes dark at once, or if they are going to shut it down in a patchwork fashion either intentionally or through waiting for infrastructure to fail...

Well, it's 2011 now, if u have nextel you have time for one new phone before end of 2013 and full lte.. So
A) if ur gonna get a phone , don't get a nextel phone.
B) if u are not gonna get a phone, be prepared from late 2012 for worsening service, drop outs, bad signal quality and then still have to get a new non lte phone and be stuck with that until 2014-2015
