Default Just got back into the country...

I used to go out of the country a lot when I had Cingular.. I wouldn't get texts when I was gone but when I'd get back and turn my phone on they'd all come through.. Now I just got back from Jamaica for the first time since having Sprint and NONE of my texts came through.. I guess they're just all gone? Whats the deal with that?

Well, I can tell you no one here has your text. Did you call Sprint tech support and ask them?

Not yet..I just think it's a bit nuts that these would just be gone.. I do a lot of business through texts and can't have them just not come through..

Is Jamaica even CDMA, if not you'd be better off with the WE bb.

+1.... If you are going to be doing a lot of International travel, upgrade to an 8830 or wait till the next Blackberry WE phone comes out then you will get the Txts while you are traveling (make sure to get international txts added to plan before you leave though). However I can tell you that at my job we have a lot of people traveling all over the world and txt messages to people traveling abroad are rarely instant, and often takes hours to arrive (this is from GSM carrier too). Also I think sprint only keeps messages 14 days max.

BBM works awesome though and is instant. I've done BBM sessions with my bosses when they were in some real third world places and it was just like they were still in the US (or the next room).

Sprint does not support international roaming text. Meaning if you are out of the country and someone sends a SMS, you will not get it. There are expections (Canada) as well as other coutries where it "may" work, but sprint does not guarantee it.

If someone sends you a text and your phone is not on or you are roaming internationallly or out of coverage area locally, sprint will continue to retry you for 72 hours. After that the message is trashed.

From the sprint website:

Q:Will a text message be delivered if the recipient's wireless phone is turned off or is out of coverage when I send it?

A: Yes. If the recipient's phone is turned back on or returns to coverage within a specified amount of time, the text message will be delivered. The specified amount of time is 72 hours for Sprint and 40 hours for Nextel. After attempting delivery for the specified time, the message will be deleted from the network.

Having said that, Sprint DOES support sending text FROM the US to International locations/carriers. A list of coutries/carriers supported can be found here:

Support - Country codes for international text messages

I wish that were true, but I was only out of the country for 48 hours and didn't receive any of my texts when I got back.

Sprint may not have a relationship with carrier in Jamaica.

I will be heading to Jamaica in a couple months and My question is does my phones wireless connection have to be on in order to use BBM?

Also, if I just have my phone on with the wireless off will I be charged if the phone is on and I never use it?

I just came back again today. BBM works fine.. I was with 3 people that all had ATT and they get texts and everything just fine. The ATT phones all hop on the LIME network out there. My Sprint phone just roams the whole time

I'm new here and planning on switching from my iPhone to a Sprint Tour due to terrible service from AT&T. The only catch is that I'm required to travel frequently to Canada on business and need to be able to send and recieve texts there.

Can anyone confirm whether or not texts can be sent/received for sure in Canada, and what the rate is?

I assume that like all the other major carriers, texts to Canada from the US are not charged extra, but it would be nice if someone confirmed that too.

I do know that Jamaica is GSM. The best bet is to obtain the BB 8830WE or wait for the tour. When I went to jamaica i have bought SIM cards there, put them in my 8830, and used that by putting the SIM card from Jamaica in the 8830.
