| | Data charge for new blackberrys?
I have a sprint blackberry bold. I was wondering do you think they will charge me the $10 premium data charge when i upgrade even though these phones are not 4G.

Any upgrade or new Smartphone added to an account now gets the $10 additional charge, this came down a few months ago. It is still better than a $30 add on that many companies charge.

I was on the phone with them yesterday. i was asking about the HTC EVO 3d and was informed about the 10.00 per line charge for ALL smart phones. I stated that we all have smart phones now and do not pay it and the rep stated as long as we stay with what we have we will not pay an increase but if we change phones we will. The rep also stated that by the time our contract is up we should ask because it may very well be gone by then. It seems that they are getting some flack because they claim about the "unlimited" without slowing you down and then charge a premium for it. Whether the eliminate it all together or they roll it into the price and just eliminate the name and have a general price increase remains to be seen.

Yes, at any point when you upgrade to a smartphone, you have the additional $10 fee tacked on. It was at first a 4G fee, but then they changed it to just a smartphone fee in general.

R u SRS? Dn't knwz 4but da chargez? Support - Article
The Premium Data add-on charge is required for Smartphones. We require this add-on for phones made to deliver a superior wireless experience including Web, email, video and social networking.
Sprint smartphones currently are: Android, BlackBerry, Palm, Instinct and Windows Mobile phones.
On average, smartphone users use 10 times more data than customers with basic or feature phones. With this charge, Smartphone customers will continue to receive unlimited data and experience Sprint's simplified services and rates, being able to take advantage of a rich data experience while on the Sprint network.
If you would like an unlimited data plan, for a lower rate, and avoid this charge, you may want to check out some of our feature phones which do not require the $10 Premium Data add-on charge.
(I feel bad for the reps that have to explain the 4g data myth to every one)

I feel the same way when I was told this $10 monthly charge per smartphone. I have been with Sprint for over 12 years and always paid my monthly bill on time. This really makes me bad. However, what is my alternative? VZW is more expensive. However, Sprint has been edging up the monthly fees gradually. Maybe in the near future, I should thinking of switching...

Sprint says this now: "We require this add-on for phones made to deliver a superior wireless experience including Web, email, video and social networking." They classify all Blackberry devices as having this. It's a way to increase fees without it looking like they increased the fees.

Maybe in the near future, I should thinking of switching... | Sprints still cheapest for single line, but they surpassed T-Mobile by far and are same as AT&T for Family now. Verizon is still more. What pisses me off the most is that Blackberry devices use so much less data compared to other phones, they are all still CDMA RevA, but I have to pay premium fee to use less data on an antiquated CDMA network?!?! My grandfathered BB International Service is the only thing keeping me with Sprint at the moment, but that's $40 per month, and and additional $40 for 4x$10 fee, and that's $1000 a year.

Yeah when the time comes I am going to have to do some research into carriers because I always just reupped my contract with sprint not thinking but with the changes they have done to their network (losing service) and increased prices they may need to beef things up to keep alot of people like myself. Wether it is increasing national coverage or cutting is BB data non hogs a break.
With me they have until June.

I cannot agree more with you guys. I am with Sprint for more than 12 years. I used to be able to use tether (very occasionally), but they removed it (well, they never decreased my monthly fee by removing the service). Now they add fees for the same services. It is almost like rewriting the contrast everytime without your consent. What kinda business world is this? Maybe some lawyer should look into this.
