AT&T starting locking their newly activated GoPhone sim chip to the orginal AT&T phone it was activated with. Last time I checked it's locked for at least a year, afterthat you put that sim chip in any AT&T phone (or 9650).
AT&T is doing this to prevent you from activating a new GoPhone and then taking the sim to another phone, I had the very same thing happen with a 9630, the fix? I called AT&T and told them my Gophone wasn't working and it wouldn't recognize the sim and they told me to take to a AT&T store, which they gave me a new sim chip which worked jsut fine in the 9630.
As far as the second part as knowing if it will work, you generally will need to get a GSM chip from were ever you go if going overseas. These are commonly availabe at airports and tourist spots. There is no assuarance that a AT&T sim chip will work in say Mexico or England. | this is a Sprint phone. (sprint forum) I am aware of you can use a 2nd party SIM card when traveling, that why I was trying to unlock the SIM card slot.
But now that I have the "Invalid Sim Card" message, I need to know if I still can use it the Sprint GSM international roaming freature; I have the original Sprint SIM card installed.
thanks for the AT&T info...
