Is there plans for a new Blackberry with direct connect?
I am new to the forums, but have been a lurker for a while.
I was just wondering if anyone has any information on any new blackberry's that Sprint/Nextel might be releasing that have the direct connect feature.
I recently started a new position at my company and was forced to give up my Perl for a 8100i, because this location uses the walkie-talkie feature heavily.
I miss the compact, low weight Perl and would love to know that someday, Nextel will step into the future and make a blackberry with direct connect that doesnt weigh a ton or look like a bar of soap. - 06-18-2008, 02:59 PM #2
I doubt they are going to come out with any new Nextel bbs since sprint is planning to phase out the iDen (Nextel) network by 2010. Hopefully they will come out with something on the cdma net that will work the same.. Lots (more) ticked off Nextel customers if they dont

I use the Simply Everything Plan $99, everything is included. Just a couple weeks ago they came out with different prices if you didn't want to spend that much. Good luck with with your service.

Actually my boyfriend has the phone you all are speaking of. It isn't out in all areas yet. Its called the Renegade v950. Its a nice phone. I have loads of friends who work at sprint and its true that they are phasing out nextel. The Renegade is a SPRINT phone that integrates the Nextel chirp technology. If you ask me it way better than the those big gaudy phones that way a ton that nextel uses. Also yes next month the blackberry curve 8350i comes out for nextel chirp users. And from what I hear its going to be the ultimate toy for all u nextel chirpers!

the iDEN network is not being phased out as a lot of you are assuming. it'll be kept for what it was originally intended for, the public safety and first responders users. there is still the DCS phones (direct connect on sprint) you'll be using CDMA to DC with and you'll still be able to DC with those on the iDEN network as well as long as the PTT # is ###*####*##### and doesn't match PTN

yes I have renegade under my plan as well. Its all cdma and Direct Conect radio wave capable. I was under the impression that th new 8350i was gonna run in the same setup. But its still not clear to me if its cdma or iden. But the hybrid setup is the way to go , specially in my area.
