I almost got scammed today by someone claiming to be Sprint customer service
They called my Sprint phone from a toll free number. They guy said it was Sprint, and that they had an important issue to speak with me about, and that they would need to verify my security question. I asked him what the important issue was, and he said that his screen wouldn't tell him until I verified the make and model of my first car. I told the guy no offense, but I have no idea if you really are Sprint. He said to look at the phone number he called from, and it should have been the Sprint toll free customer service number. I told him that number meant nothing to me, and that I was sorry, but I wasn't about to give him my information.
The guy sounded really nice and official. I actually figured it was probably legit, so I called tonight Sprint tonight to see what they wanted, and they said they didn't want anything from me, and that they never call to ask your security question. They said that apparently some people have been calling around like this to get people to give out their security question, and then they call customer care and order phones under that person's account.

MisterB.... good job on your part! Yes, lots of scams out there.
They take advantage of nice people who are trusting and believe them. It makes me so angry that you work hard to make an honest living and people like that steal from you.
Thanks for making everyone aware of it!

Nice catch!
Also, if Sprint DOES call you (they do make calls to your phone with special offers) you can call the number back and, if it was Sprint, you will get a Sprint recording with info about the reason for he call. I generally only respond on my return call to Sprint. Smooth move!!

I've had the same thing happen twice previously. The first time I actually spoke to the person requesting the information, it felt a little odd and referenced I'd call them back. Same thing as OP, called Sprint, not them. The next time I didn't answer the call, they left a voicemail with a number to call back, including a "Reference" number. Called it back, and oddly the number didn't exist (imagine that). Always keep your eyes open for scammers!

Omgosh an 800# called my phone like twice today as if it was important but left no message. If it was important then they would.
