Completely fed up

I am on my 3rd Tour from Sprint in less than 40 days. They replaced my Curve about 5 months ago due to issues with that and just gave me a Tour. The thing sucks. First one had issues with the trackball and sound issues. Said they'd send me a new one (have the chat log and everything), only to find out that they only give out new phones at stores and I "must have been misinformed"
So took that one to the store, they gave me a new one a little under 2 weeks ago. Same thing now. Trackball works half the time, sound notifications don't work at all for SMS, half the time for email.
Spoke with someone from CS yesterday and he basically told me as he was making notes on my account (HE called ME to see how things were going), that "yeah, we've had way too many issues with the blackberry trackballs".
So what do I do? Just keep taking it back to the store and get a new one each time? At this point, I am ready to just leave sprint and my beloved SERO plan from 4 years ago. This is just crazy. Closest store is ~40 mins away. You would think they would release me from my contracts instead of giving me a new phone every week, since this problem just wont go away.
Ugh. Sorry, just had to vent. - 11-04-2009, 10:26 PM #2
Yeah, because if you leave Sprint and go to Verizon for the Tour, it won't have any of those issues? Its a RIM faulty device problem, and its happening on VZW also. How about, getting a new phone and scrapping the Tour until the Essex comes out? Its not Sprint's fault you live 40 mins away from the store, I'm sure they are happy to give you a new one every time you show up. I get that you're ranting, but you are ranting about the wrong thing here. Rant about how RIM put out a POS product. Sprint seems to be doing what they are supposed to do in regard to your issues.

its sad how you blame sprint for this.. if apparently 3 Rim Tour devices dont work why keep trying to get the same faulty device...

The Tour is a failure. That's why Sprint and Verizon are dumping it as quickly as possible. Do you think that either carrier likes having upset customers because they sold them garbage? Just buy a Curve or 8830 from Ebay for $100 and return your Tour. Then get the vastly improved Tour 2 when it comes out in a few months.
The Tour fanboys will be along shortly to tell you that THEIR trackball works perfectly so it must be user-error why yours doesn't work. Wait for it. Wait for it. - 11-05-2009, 06:08 PM #5
The tour works just fine. Sure, a bunch of them shipped out with defective trackballs, but that issue should be evident immediately when you first turn it on.
Do a backup, wipe it, and see if you're still having issues. If you've had several of those devices already with those issues it sounds like you've had pretty bad luck. - 11-05-2009, 06:12 PM #6
^^^ Told you so. Anyone claiming to have a working Tour is encouraged to post a video of the trackball test getting 5s in each direction without difficulty. So far, not a single Tour has passed the test.

You could always see if they would be willing to replace it with an 8530 when they come out.

God, fanbois can be so unhelpful and rude.
I do agree that it is a RIM problem and not a Sprint problem. I too bought the Tour and had no problems with it in the beginning, but recently had to have it replaced at the Sprint store. I have absolutely no confidence that this won't be a repeat problem.
I think the issue here is that some of us paid upwards of $200 for this phone, and when you drop that kind of dough on a device, you want it to last for at least a year, and certainly not have to keep going through the hassle of swapping it out every other week. If this phone was tops and worked the way it should, there is no way they would be rolling out a "Tour 2" so soon after it's debut. It's **** poor management on RIM's fault, and they have completely shaken consumer confidence in their product.
So, you pay $300 for a phone three months ago that keeps giving you problems. What in the heck are you supposed to do? Eat the loss by selling it on Ebay, and then have to dish out even MORE money for another smartphone? - 11-05-2009, 09:19 PM #10Juan Too Big Perez

Just swap out your junk Tours for the Curve which drops soon and will blow the Tour out of the water. Better keyboard, optical trackpad, better battery life, better construction, etc.

The new Curve should be pretty sweet, but may not be the right answer.
I think the WiFi Tour will be the answer. - 11-05-2009, 11:25 PM #13
I somehow don't think a ton of people are going to want to go from 480x360 to 320x240...

Well said. I am surprised at the responses some on this forum have had to others. Someone claims to have a problem with their Tour? Well, its safest to assume they are neither stupid nor a liar, or for that matter even prone to exaggeration. I mean, you don't have any evidence that their phone DOES work, so a bit of deference and humility is in order.
On the other hand, don't write off everyone who has a functional Tour as a fanboy. The term implies negative things (that's the point) and its just as wrong as someone telling you you're too dumb to know your Tour is awesome.
Now if I could just find that plank in my own eye...

Nice signature, how many $50 cards have you received as of yet? Cause yeah, I know that's typed up to look nice to the person reading it, but it looks really stingy on your part trying to rack up as many $50 Visa GC's that you can from total strangers...sorry totally off topic but had to respond.

part of the issue, I agree is not with sprint specifically. I have NO problem keeping going back and getting a new one over and over. My issue is with the fact that my warranty might run out before they have a substitute.
And I actually HAVE another Curve but I am not going to use it. I paid for an upgrade, and I expect to have something that WORKS.
So is the new Tour/Curve which they are getting rid of the trackball, going to be on Sprint in the near future? - 11-07-2009, 11:41 PM #25
The new Curve should be released in the next two weeks!
