Lightbulb Oh Canada Eh? Any Canadians out there?

I have made the mistake of telling my employer at some point that I am "willing to travel" so now I am in Canada (Toronto) not knowing what to do with the little free time I do have.

Welcome to the great City of Toronto!!

It's too late now to see the Maple Leafs hockey team but the Toronto Raptors (NBA) are now in the first round of the playoffs, and of course, we can't forget the Toronto Blue Jays (MLB).

If you don't care for Sports, Toronto has alot of theatre and concerts to see as well as museums and art galleries to visit. And Carabana will be coming the last week of July. If you wish, you can take a ferry to the Toronto Islands at that time. There is also the Carabana parade and the Gay Pride parade.

And Toronto has many great restaurants and places to shop (don't forget Yorkville). In late August, there is the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE aka fondly as 'the EX').

Hope this helps.

Jfelch,

Welcome to CrackBerry and welcome to Canada!

I've been to Toronto many times, and there is always a LOT to do...When I'm in town I usually stay downtown at the Royal York... right downtown close to the Air Canada Centre... If you're downtown just take a walk around, lots of places and shops to see, especially the hockey hall of fame (if you're into hockey)...

Also there are many great restaurants to hit up... I've been to so many of them in the downtown area and they never dissapoint!

If you have any questions or concerns about CrackBerry.com... just contact me.

Again, welcome!

Angry Blackberry Prices in Canada?????

I know that this issue has been talked about before, but i just wish that Rogers would get with it and offer us some more reasonable options. I use my BB for text messaging to avoid the insane data rates, which seems like a pathetic attempt at harnessing the true power of my 8700. But on top of a voice plan, the data rates are through the roof. Unless your employer pays for your usage, it's pretty tought for the social user not to face the insane overage charges that add up pretty fast. I once had an absolutley crazy bill when i got off my free period, $200+ for a month of just bb use. Does anyone see Rogers offering all you can eat service at a reasonable rate in the future?

It's not just Rogers, all Canadian Service Providers seem to have higher pricing. Canada is almost 3rd world as far as wireless is concerned (in my opinion). I found this link, comparing prices

A short and sweet explanation is that in comparison to say the US canada does not have the subscriber base nor the competition to even think of meeting any other countries prices at this point, rogers only GSM provider in canada, fido does not count as they are owned by Rogers..Bell/Aliant..crappy coverage, poor customer service..Telus Mobility once again poor coverage, even crappier customer service..and fact being none of them genuinely care abt the customers, ya sure they have customer retention teams for those whi threaten to switch but really their offers in relation to data services will still NEVER reach US standards, the only thing that I see that MIGHT change this now is the fact that Line Number Portability has just recently come into effect (in nova scotia anyways) and that if they see too many numbers being taken out of their pools they may slack off on some of the issues but really overall, where ya gonna go, as already stated, they all really suck in data pricing anyways, best option is to stay with current provider in hopes that someday they will release something good and your ''long term loyalty'' will top all the exisiting plans through one of the aforemention retention teams.

The other part of it is, look at Canada in comparison to alot of other countries. Canada has twice, three, four times the amount of land to cover with a cell/data network with a lot less people in those areas. This is another good reason that Rogers, Telus, Etc. charge so much for Data, there costs are alot higher.

Lots of space to cover with not a lot of customers using the network equals higher operating costs.

In any case it's no fun. However it has been forcasted that Rogers will have to make new options available for Data once the release of the iPhone emerges into Canada. I'm with you on this one, the prices are through the roof, so much so that I too have yet to purchase a data plan.
