Can we get rid of the huge Microsoft ad at the top of crackberry??
Is there a way to get rid of the huge Microsoft ad at the top of every crackberry Page? It's annoying. I don't care about the "most recommended windows 8 articles".
Come on, this is CrackBerry!! - 12-27-2012, 07:08 AM #2
We've toyed with a subscription fee with limited advertising, but one way or the other, Kevin needs to fund his $500 app habit.

The location of it is the problem I find. It is located too close to the left hand bezel on the Playbook. End up hitting the advert with my fat fingers when I am trying to swipe/scroll on the playbook.
That process ensures I will not buy Microsoft Windows 8. LoLDo those who protest the loudest or longest have a lock on the truth? - 12-27-2012, 07:16 AM #5

We work with a partner on advertising campaigns... so the ads vary. Can't just turn one on and off, but they usually do change up quite often. Also keep in mind that our other sites (AndroidCentral, iMore, WPCentral, webOSNation), also receive their fair share of BlackBerry ads, so it sort of all events out.
We're working on our new site redesign for CrackBerry now, which will be a big update across all displays (desktop computer, tablet, mobile), so that will help out in a lot of ways with the ads. We're really working hard to improve the experience of them here. We need to have ads -- gotta pay the bills -- but we know there's a happy balance, so we're working to maintain that.
As mentioned above, we've toyed with the notion above of a subscription model. It wasn't really feasible to implement before, but now that we have our cross site login / Passport rolled out, this becomes a feature we could put on the roadmap to implement. Maybe in 2013 we can make that happen.
All the best!Kevin Michaluk

The problem isn't really subscriptions. I mean, someone will *always* buy a subscription (I would).
But if the (number of subscriptions x subscription costs) minus the implementation costs is greater than the ad revenue generated for those users - then its a good idea. But that means a lot of subscriptions are needed.
