Good move. I've seen some threads get derailed because people think that user's signatures are part of the intended response (and targeted towards them).

Never understood why people add extra overhead around their messages that could possibly lead to less clarity. Not to mention it often causes readers to interpret a post with likely unintended bias/prejudice.

I'm guessing the CB10 'trailing end' signature is not really a signature (since it shows up as part of the post body).

"Posted via CB10" is a signature that's on the app by default. You can swipe down to settings and backspace the CB10 info and have no signature if you want.

All I have to say is, seriously???

Forum signatures slow load times? Take up a "LOT" of space? Are unnecessary spam? From the outside looking in, that doesn't seem to be the issue, mobile website or no.

Now I'm sure there's some extra modding due to signature issues but that's the nature of the forums as a whole. However, I think a short signature such as Q10SQN100-2/10.3.2.2789 do a lot more good to help people find the right answers and are not distracting in any sort of way. So what's the ultimate goal here? Reallocate bandwidth, less for members and more for ads or site/memory optimization/utilization?

Slowing load times refers to those members who don't have great mobile or internet connections. Remember that CrackBerry has a large membership in areas where high speed connections are unavailable or with spotty connections.

Taking up a lot of space? Current guidelines allow 4 desktop lines of text in a sig. On a mobile device, those 4 lines can wrap to 8 or more lines -- often containing more text than the poster's comments themselves.

The ultimate goal is to make CrackBerry the best possible experience for all members.

I understand completely, as the Q10 is my daily driver, small display and all. As the pics below may attest to, the size and space of one's forum signature (even your own) is the last of my worries when I have to scroll through the top headers and ads first. It's the size of everything else on the webpage and time it takes to load those things that concern me. Poor Internet speeds only compound the problems, I agree, but signatures are not what's really eating the bandwidth, IMHO.

From the looks of those screenshots, you could use Browsie Browser with its ad-block.
Because of the small screen real estate on my Q10, it's the only way to be able to view CB on a browser.

The signatures can be abused, but I haven't seen any on CB that have been extreme.

If you want to remove sigs, that's fine.

But how about doing something serious to speed up load times and reduce bandwidth consumption by minimizing the impact of those ad-related links that show up in my status bar every time I load a page?

Also, I'm constantly having script loading problems that result in hanging page loads.

I really enjoy crackberry, but it rivals the verge for site bloat.

It's really not difficult to put suggested "default" signature in your post itself, so I see no real need for it as a signature.

Signatures themselves, have become rather gimmicky. It's nice to be able to let everyone know that you are one of the first to adopt a new device in your signature but, chances are, the content of your post will say that anyway.

I've done away with auto-signatures in my email messages already as I've found more and more that they become redundant. Without auto-signatures, the messages flow more freely and conversationally. At least, that's my opinion...

Yeah I'm gonna say that signatures aren't the reason that the site slows down. Not sure how I feel about it. Honestly I don't see why there can't just be a tighter character limit and leave it at that. No links perhaps. I don't put anything important in mine, but there are many that do.

Lol.. I'm aware of that. What I was saying was that it's not actually a signature (from a system perspective), it's simply an extra bit of static text appended to the end of the post body text (as opposed to a real signature, which is separate-one-per-user db field).

I believe the signatures James wants to remove are the 4 line vBulletin ones the forum provides NOT the CB10 or other app provided 1 line signatures. I like the idea of using the 1 line for a myver tag.

CB10's aren't actually proper signatures anyway, just text added to every post

Android Central is probably the most strict on the signature guidelines. We allow absolutely no links and/or images except for Ambassadors and Moderators and our most common signature violations are people tripping self promotion / advertising. It isn't super common, but it is enough to where we follow the rules to the letter.

As a minimum, I think a "myver" signature should be allowed, if not required. It's simple, and saves a lot of time when trying to offer advice.
