- On sale in the app store are a number of applications whose very functionability has been suggested is not possible and that these applications are a scam.
So my question is: Does Crackberry as the retailer,in whom we have placed our trust, have an obligation to provide legitimate services.
That is to ensure that these applications ( memory/battery/network boosters ) actually work or remove them from the store.
Or given that seemingly they are scams does Crackberry have the right to profit from the clever marketing of the developers and also take advantage of our trust?

- I think they would certainly remove any app that was known to be some sort of a scam, but what app/apps are you referring to? Also, keep in mind that it's always possible that a certain user could not get an app to work due to problems with their own phone, then write up a review saying the app doesn't work. So...in addition to what apps are you referring to, the source of the "scam" woule need to verified. I don't believe for a moment that CrackBerry would knowingly participate in any scam.07-02-09 09:50 AMLike 0
- No where have I seen CB advertise that they only offer perfect apps, or that they've tested and verified the legitimacy of every app. Their only moral obligation is to make sure that whatever app, phone, or accessory you order, gets to you. Beyond that, I'd say your on your own.07-02-09 09:54 AMLike 0

Yes those apps and others in the same vein.
There has been a lot of controversy concerning these apps with people staying that it is impossible for them to work as the Blackberry api's won't allow access to the code that these apps claim to fix.
So as Crackberry is at the forefront of information involving Blackberry they are bound to be aware of this situation.
Now if it is impossible for these apps to work is it right that they remain on sale here.
Do we not trust Crackberry to protect us from things like this?
I can't think of a good analogy but would you continue to do business with your local store if they knowingly sold you items that had such false claims?
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com07-02-09 12:08 PMLike 0 - CrackBerry KevinCrackBerry FounderHey Guys,
I'll post here for some clarification. In regards to our CrackBerry software stores, they are powered by our software partner Mobihand. So the relationship between the application developers and the apps they provide is not directly between the developer and CrackBerry, but between the the developer and Mobihand. In turn, we have a relationship with Mobihand who powers the software side of our store.
Many smartphone-focused sites such as CrackBerry use Mobihand as their software partner, so when you discuss these apps being in the CrackBerry App Store and it being CrackBerry's moral obligation, etc., it's not a "CrackBerry-only" thing but affects numerous sites that offer the same software catalog as provided by Mobihand - they would all see the same listings, etc.
The developer's agreements with Mobihand do put the obligation on the developer to ensure all apps they contribute to the Mobihand catalogue are in good working order, value-added, etc. (no vaporware). As we've all seen with BlackBerry apps, sometimes there can be glitches initially with apps (almost impossible for a single developer to workout every glitch until more users use the app --multiple devices/OS versions/carriers, etc.) and that's why developers typically offer free upgrades, but apps obviously should be worthwhile and function as intended.
So even though the onus isn't directly on CrackBerry but rather on Mobihand and the developers we have in the past and do contact Mobihand and developers directly when we have seen things pop-up in the app store that seemed a little off - ie. software descriptions not being as accurately/clearly written as they should be, or to have developers further clarify their product descriptions (with multiple versions of the Curve these days you need to be careful which Curve you're talking about, etc.). It's never the intent of CrackBerry.com for customers to buy something that doesn't work as intended. Our goals are long-term - we would never go for short-term profitability at the expense of our long-term credibility and reputation.
Solutions. There's a couple points here:
1. So even though we can't control what gets added/offered through the app stores immediately, we can and do raise a red flag if we see something that's potentially out of whack. That said, with so much content coming in (plus we're all very busy) I'm sure we miss some things. So if you, as members/customers ever come across anything... you can always contact one of our Forum Managers to raise the flag (Adam Zeis, Bla1ze) or even contact the developer directly (every product page in the software store has a Technical Support link that goes to the develeoper) or you can contact our mobihand software support team directly via crackberrysoftwaresupport.com or by emailing [email protected].
2. Take advantage of free trials when available. They're there for a reason - test that the app works on your device and that it's something you want to buy.
3. If you do buy something that doesn't work as intended, you can contact software support for a refund. The goal is always to get the app working as intended (again, use your free trials), but if there's tech glitches, etc. you can get a refund.
Hope that clarifies things and makes sense. Again, we're here to make happy long-term customers and patrons of the site. Let me know if you have any questions.
Kevin07-02-09 12:50 PMLike 0 - HI Kevin thanks for getting involved.
I am not talking about apps that have glitches but apps that according to certain people that are; simply put: Fraudulant. If you would care to view this thread there are several posts that go into great depth on the technical impossibilities of these apps.
http://forums.crackberry.com/f35/net...ht=network+acc
My stance on this matter is that I have no technical knowledge and so I rely on other individuals who gain my trust to sway my opinions. In this discussion that would be Crackberry. Now according to your corporate statement Crackberry wishes to wash its hands of any responsibility as to which apps are placed in the app store, though Crackberry has chosen to work with Mobihand .
I tend to ramble so let me cut it short. Now that this has been brought to your attention will Crackberry be looking into the legitimacy of these apps and if they prove to be incapable of what they claim, have them removed from their app store. I suppose we could now consider these apps RED FLAGGED : -)
Thank you for your time and help Kevin.07-02-09 02:13 PMLike 0 -
- CrackBerry KevinCrackBerry FounderYup, understood your concern (not just glitches, but apps that may not deliver as intended). I will forward them on. It's not in my control to remove them from the catalogue though, so as I said in my post above.. you can always reach out to mobihand directly through our support and express any concerns there. That's a more direct channel to the appropriate source (and of course to the developers themselves).07-02-09 05:50 PMLike 0
- Others may feel different and that's cool. But, JMO. If "I" buy apps, and they turn out to be crap, then it's ultimately my issue- not CrackBerry/Mobihand. Why? Because no one forced me to buy the apps, the themes, or download the beta OS(that may cause issues) to my BlackBerries. Hey, I'm all about "power to the people", but, I'm more into accepting responsibility for my actions.

07-02-09 08:26 PMLike 0 - If an app is known for it's failure to perform (any and everybody complains about it), then it should pulled from the store.....in my opinion. Doesn't matter if the seller is not the manufacturer. I trust CB not to knowingly sell me crappy apps.
However, where this gets sticky is when you have to depend on folks who may or may not be too "swift" when it comes to following instructions AND giving honest, complete reviews of apps. I take all "reviews" with a grain of salt.
Folks love to rant, "This app is a piece of *@?#$$!!!!", only for the rest of us to find out that they downloaded the wrong OS version, didn't follow installation instructions, or something else that is clearly a problem with the man in the mirror, and not the app.
So, I guess the bottom line is for some apps, it's "hit or miss". One thing I think should be mandatory for ALL apps: A trial version. That should not even be a question....especially if an app is over a certain price. e-Mobile, for instance, is famous for not offering trial versions. That's a shame. I've had "hit or miss" luck with them. Their apps ain't cheap.07-03-09 11:08 PMLike 0 - @ Tylynnsmith I agree ALL apps should have a trial period with FULL functionality to test ALL the features before purchasing. If devs are concerned about people using the test to get results then deleting the app...They should probably make it where the app resorts back to previous settings after the trial expires.
About the OP's concern. I dont think it would be Crackberry's responsibility, thats like saying eBay should screen ALL ads for truthfulness. Maybe there could/should be a list of apps proven not to work so others can stay away. Since the "rating" system is flawed as developers flood their own product reviews with positives.

This is a thread about whether the site has any moral obligation to ensure the value of items sold by the attached store, and your question might get better answers if it was it's own thread instead of an off topic post in this thread, but I can't see a way to do what you want, easiest to just hit the three forums.
I don't think crackberry.com has a moral obligation to do anything. crackberry may have some self interest motivation to be relatively honest brokers, but when it comes down to cash money, here or anywhere else, it's buyer beware.02-22-10 08:09 PMLike 0 - This is a thread about whether the site has any moral obligation to ensure the value of items sold by the attached store, and your question might get better answers if it was it's own thread instead of an off topic post in this thread, but I can't see a way to do what you want, easiest to just hit the three forums.
