New Forum Addition: Real-Time Search While Creating New Thread!

Hey All,

Just a quick announcement (Dec. 30th, 2009)... We just put live a new plug-in for the forums that performs a real-time forum search as you are creating a new forum thread. It only works on the main website (not the mobile forums template) but should be an overall improvement.

As you are creating a thread, it'll pull up threads with similar titles. This should help new users to find existing threads that answer their questions prior to them creating a new thread. It should also help reduce duplicate threads a bit, assuming people pay attention to it.

The real value in this plug-in exists when members use descriptive thread titles, so please, try and do that. It's a big benefit for everybody to try and keep the forums as organized as possible, which is hard to do when they're as big and active as the CrackBerry forums, but it's something we can strive for. Descriptive thread titles really help!

We don't foresee any issues to be caused by the implementation of the new plug-in, but it is possible that something could glitch up a bit (more load on the servers). If you notice any server slow-downs or glitches, let us know!

I've noticed CB to be very laggy since the 30th. I've seen a server error message 5 or 6 times in the last 3 days.

Great idea though. I'm going to test it now.

Here's a feature I like.

I tried putting 'Help' as a thread title. Got no matches.
Hopefully that encourages more descriptive thread titles.

Descriptive titles and instant search are a boon. Let us hope the results are as good as hoped.
